Calian is proud to continue a long-standing contractual relationship with the Department of National Defence (DND) to provide healthcare services to the Canadian Armed Forces. Through the Health Care Provider Contract, Calian employs health care professionals across Canada who are integral to supporting the health and wellbeing of our military members.

Position Overview

Calian Health is seeking a full-time Occupational Health Services Technologist with an interest to provide health services to Canadian Armed Forces members in their exclusive outpatient clinic located on Canadian Forces Base North Bay, ON. This role is ideal if you have an interest in treating the military population, operational trauma, and occupational health. This is a rewarding position where you’d make a difference in the lives of the men and women who serve our country and keep us safe.

Occupational Health Services Technologists possess specialized expertise, knowledge, and skills in the areas of occupational health, and safety. Their main roles are to develop and deliver programs that will assist in conserving life, health and property. This is accomplished through the identification of health and safety hazards in the work environment and recommending corrective action.

Responsibilities

Conduct work site occupational health walk-through, surveillance, and compliance inspections at DND and CF facilities;

  • Conduct occupational health survey inspections including:
  • Collect samples, e.g. air, soil, and perform laboratory analysis;
  • Interpret and analyze sampling data;
  • Liaise with accredited analytical laboratories as well as government and civilian regulatory agencies; and
  • Recommend administrative and engineering control measures to ensure workplace compliance with the Canada Labour Code.

Qualifications

  • A certification in occupational health and safety from one of the following:
  • Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST) with the Board of Certified Safety Professionals, USA;
  • Registered Occupational Hygienist (ROH) or Registered Occupational Hygiene Technologist (ROHT) with the Canadian Registration Board of Occupational Hygienists; or
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) with the American Board of Industrial Hygiene or Conseil canadien d’agrement des hygienists du travail (CCAHT) ; and
  • A valid provincial drivers’ licence (while access to DND vehicles and drivers may be provided, Occupational Health Services Technologists should be prepared to use their Privately Owned Motor Vehicle (POMV).
  • 2 years of experience:
  • Delivering occupational health and safety services within an environmental health program as an Occupational Health Services Technologist;
  • Applying federal and provincial environmental health and occupational health and safety legislation;
  • Carrying out environmental or occupational health and safety investigations; and
  • Writing technical reports in the areas of environmental, occupational health, and safety.

Additional Requirements

You will be able to obtain a Government Security Clearance at the Reliability level

Compensation: Between $35-40 per hour
