The role:

 

The Canadian Banking Finance, Expense Management (CBF-EM) team’s objective is to manage expenses through strategic, insightful and timely financial analysis in a continuously changing environment. To support our stakeholders, expenses are managed in a matrix view, by expense category and Canadian Banking’s (CB) business lines (Retail, Tangerine, Small Business and Commercial Banking). Our primary stakeholders are the Finance and CB Business Line’s executive leadership team. 


The Senior Manager will lead the team in providing accurate, detailed and timely expense analytics. Inclusive of planning, forecasting, reporting and ad hoc requests.


Critical to our team’s success is openness to and the ability to drive change. As such, the Senior Manager is expected to drive changes in areas of opportunity and be the key liaison on change management projects – such as Hyperion T4 and the team’s internal change management initiatives.       

 

Is this role right for you? In this role you will: 


Lead the consolidation and analysis of CB’s non-interest expense reporting, forecasting, and planning processes:

  • Lead in the coordination of a timely delivery for forecasts and profit plans, including: Post-quarter forecasts, Pre-quarter forecasts, Quarter End reasonability, Stress Testing, and Annual Profit plan.
  • Effective communication of expectations and deliverables to CBF-EM team and key stakeholders.
  • Provide insightful, timely and comprehensive expense analytics on quarter end, forecasting/plan and an ad-hoc basis, including responding to queries from CB Executive Management team and key stakeholders.
  • Provides in-depth analysis of direct expenses as well as major support and allocated expenses to assist in identifying opportunities for cost savings and operational improvement.
  • Collaborate with Director in expense process and reporting design, including robust expense category and business line reporting and optimized integration with Finance Transformation initiatives.
  • Primary contact for Finance Transformation initiatives – lead in determining system/reporting requirements, testing and leading the roll-out to stakeholders.

 

Develop and maintain long term strategic relationships with key partners:

  • Build strong strategic relationship with CBF-EM key partners to provide seamless reporting across the division; key partners inclusive of greater CBF team, CB Statutory Reporting, Executive Office Finance, CB Business Line Finance and all-bank Support Teams.
  • Exemplify strong team oriented mindset, to endorse a collaborative environment in both immediate and extended team.

    • Effectively communicating and aligning individual and group goals.
    • Developing and executing meaningful employee development plans; motivating and contributing to the development of subordinate/team performance in current job and for future opportunities.
    • Recognizing team development needs and taking an active role in addressing gaps; exhibiting self-awareness around one’s own impact on the team and when necessary, adjusting leadership and motivational qualities to maximize subordinate/team performance.
    • Actively sharing knowledge and experience to enhance the development of all team members.

 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role?  We’d love to work with you if you have:

 

  • Post-secondary degree in Finance or Accounting with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.  
  • A professional accounting designation or MBA is preferred.
  • Previous experience in Category Management, Cost Management.
  • Strong knowledge of the banking industry and Canadian Banking.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills sufficient to influence and deal with Executive and Senior Management effectively.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and relationship management expertise.
  • Highly competent in financial and management reporting principles.
  • Superior understanding of elements of effective control over integrity and completeness of financial reporting, attention to detail.
  • Will require over-time during peak periods – quarter-end, forecasting and plan cycles.
  • Highly competent in Microsoft Office Suite applications (Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Oracle, Smartview, and Hyperion.
