Special Constables serving with the City of Ottawa Transit Services are appointed by the Ottawa Police Services Board, with approval from the Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services, in accordance with the Community Safety and Policing Act, 2019.
Upon appointment, Special Constables are designated as Peace Officers, as defined under Section 2 of the Criminal Code of Canada, and are granted the legal authority to enforce federal, provincial, and municipal laws within the scope of their duties.
You are responsible for ensuring the safety and security of passengers, employees, Transit Services property, vehicles, and the general public.
Work is performed in accordance with relevant federal, provincial and municipal legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines including but not limited to: Criminal Code of Canada, Community Safety and Policing Act, 2024Provincial Offences Act, Trespass to Property Act, and applicable municipal bylaws.
Completion of community college Police Foundations or Law and Security Certificate.
Minimum of 2 years of law enforcement experience which may include security, policing and corrections.
Related experience in dealing with people and enforcement procedures may be considered as alternate relevant experience
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES
First Aid and CPR/AED certificate
Valid Ontario unrestricted class G driver's license (or provincial equivalent)
Enhanced reliability clearance including fingerprinting, credit check, interviews, investigations and background reference checks.
