Your Opportunity

Join a Top 10 global design firm in our Buildings Practice that provides Architecture, Interior Design, and Buildings Engineering services with a long history and deep commitment to design excellence.

We are seeking an Intern Architect based in Edmonton – our global headquarters in the heart of downtown. In this role you can expect to be involved in all stages of architectural design – from conceptual sketches and massing models to assisting with site visits during construction. You will benefit from direct mentorship from Registered Architects in the office along with various opportunities for growth and development aligned with your passions.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Supports project teams in development of architectural design documentation.

  • Assists in the development of a design through sketches, physical models, 3D models, diagrams, massing studies, and other visual formats.

  • Utilizes BIM technologies in development of three-dimensional models of buildings and their components.

  • Actively participates in design critiques and pin-ups, and has a passion for progressing the pursuit of design excellence.

  • Interprets and applies building codes and requirements of other regulatory agencies.

  • Prepares and revises documentation in various architectural phases including site plans, floor plans, building elevations, building sections, and details.

  • Reviews shop drawings and submittals, responds to RFIs, prepares site observation reports, and other contract administration tasks.

  • Assists in the evaluation and selection of building systems and materials.

  • Attends project coordination and meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants.

  • Implements sustainable design principles into the building design and surrounding environment.

  • Assists in site analysis, research of concept, benchmarks, typology, and precedents.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Passion for innovation and supporting a design-focused architectural studio.

  • Collaborative, people-person that thrives working in a team-setting.

  • Basic knowledge of building construction systems means and methods, materials, and industry associated standards are expected.

  • Basic understanding of all phases of architectural document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.

  • Basic knowledge and application of applicable building codes.

  • Ability to conduct space planning, block planning, and adjacencies in coordination with building program.

  • Ability to develop floor plans, elevations, wall sections, and details to a construction documentation level.

  • Ability to produce presentation renderings, diagrams, and massing models.

  • Knowledgeable about innovation in architecture, and actively tracks new trends in design.

  • To engage in creative and critical thought. To sketch and communicate concepts and ideas to others effectively.

  • To interpret sketches, drawings, building program and other similar material and translate them into a 3D model.

  • Requires an understanding of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop), SketchUp, Rhino, Revit, Enscape and/or Lumion, and the Microsoft Office suite of apps.

Education and Experience

  • Masters degree in Architecture (M.Arch).

  • Recent graduates of a M.Arch program are encouraged to apply. Previous professional experience is considered an asset.

  • Currently registered as an Intern Architect with the Alberta Association of Architects, or eligible to do so.

  • Minimum of 2 years post-graduate experience in architecture industry.

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
