Your Opportunity

Stantec’s Electrical team is hiring an Electrical Engineer in Training to join our growing team. A background in mining or heavy industrial and processing sectors is preferred. The successful candidate would primarily be supporting mining work, with the opportunity to support projects across all of Energy & Resources. This is a unique opportunity to be a part of a strong interdisciplinary team that works on a variety of unique and exciting Energy & Resources projects across North America and Internationally and offers an excellent career development opportunity. This is role is for a full-time position.

Your Key Responsibilities

The successful applicant will work within a multidisciplinary team of design and engineering professionals to deliver projects. You will be a key member of the electrical team working with various clients in completing feasibility studies and detailed engineering projects.

You will be responsible for applying engineering knowledge and professional judgement acquired through experience to plan, size, evaluate, select, and specify electrical systems in accordance with relevant codes, standards and industry best practices. You will perform a variety of tasks which may include conducting field investigations, carrying out detailed planning studies, preparing design calculations, authoring technical reports, supporting the development of construction packages (drawings and technical specifications), estimating construction costs, monitoring and supporting construction, participating in commissioning, and contributing to business development activities. You should be capable of working independently with support from team members and with a reflective mindset and a willingness to challenge both personal and teamwork.

  • Conduct basic interpretations of drawings, codes, and other similar materials.

  • Works with other engineering disciplines and professionals in the coordination of the project under the direction of a senior engineer/designer.

  • Performs field work as directed by a senior engineer/designer.

  • Assists with collecting data and gathering information to support design decisions.

  • Work as a contributing team member within a multi-discipline team.

  • Understand and work within Stantec's quality control guidelines.

  • As a member of the electrical team, your primary duties will include:- Power system design and analysis in accordance with applicable codes for surface and underground mining operations.

  • Incorporation of innovation, optimization, and standardization in designs as appropriate considering constructability and economics.

  • Drafts basic technical documents under the direction of a senior engineer/designer.

  • Preparation of quality reports and calculation packages as project deliverables.

  • Performs calculations to analyze and design individual electrical system components using company standard software and proprietary manufacturer software.

  • Development and completion of power systems analysis models using ETAP, EasyPower and/or SKM.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Participates and collaborates in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.

  • Knowledge of applicable design codes and familiarity with Mine Safety and Health Administration Regulations is an asset.

  • Time management skills to meet project budget and schedule.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, along with excellent interpersonal abilities and willingness to work in a team atmosphere.

  • Support the preparation and coordination of electrical construction drawings, such as:- Single line diagrams (SLDs)

  • Power and Lighting Plans

  • Grounding and Lightning Protection Plans

  • Elevations

  • Wiring diagrams

  • Motor control schematics

  • Riser diagrams

  • Installation details

  • Schedules (panel schedules, cable schedules, etc.)

  • Willingness to travel to client sites or other Stantec offices (~10% travel).

  • Knowledge of and ability to use standard computer applications including, but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite, Navisworks, AutoCAD, and Revit (would be considered an asset).

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.

  • Co-op/Internship experience (would be considered an asset).

  • 0-4 years of engineering, design, and construction experience in heavy industry, particularly surface or underground mining.

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
