Your Opportunity
Our Calgary design studio is seeking a full-time, highly motivated intermediate level Landscape Designer to join our Planning and Landscape Architecture team within the Community Development business center. Top candidates will have strong technical abilities, excellent graphic communications skills, be highly organized, and be able to work collaboratively but also work independently on projects through all phases of a project lifecycle.
You will have the opportunity to plan and design public and private projects across a range of scales and uses, including civic spaces, streetscapes, parks, residential, commercial, institutional developments, and more. We are seeking team members with interest or experience in working on a variety of municipal, infrastructure and architecture lead project types. You will build new relationships with our more than 250+ landscape architecture staff throughout the organization. This position also offers mentorship under award winning Landscape Architects, Planners, and Architects through all phases of a project lifecycle, as well as the chance for you to mentor team members as we continue to grow. As part of Stantec’s flexible workplace, this position provides the opportunity for splitting between working at home and from our design studio.
Your Key Responsibilities
Supporting design teams with site analysis, concept design, production of construction documents, project presentation graphics, and construction administration efforts.
Work towards leading and managing projects, communicating directly with clients and supporting projects from concept through construction.
Balance multiple priorities and deadlines, demonstrating excellent time management and organizational skills.
Maintaining a sense of excitement to be involved in projects such as, but not limited to, urban design, education, healthcare, master planned communities, landscape restoration, recreation and sport facilities, etc.
Producing designs and preparing project graphics using hand and computer drawing and rendering techniques.
Develop technical designs and drawings across a range of project scales from less than one acre to hundreds of acres in size.
Design skills required include technical design layout, grading, planting and detailing of design projects of all sizes. Irrigation design knowledge is not required, but considered an asset.
Project management skills required include, project planning, proposal response/scope of work definition, and project financial oversight
This role requires collaborative work with our planning, engineering and architecture colleagues and a close working relationship with the various members of the landscape architecture team, including our landscape designers, graphic designers, senior landscape architects and landscape field services team members.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Ability to work with on various projects that require teamwork and close collaboration, as you may be working on multiple teams on multiple projects in a dynamic work environment
Ability to solve problems using sound professional judgment, proactive creativity, and innovation.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Solid graphic and digital design and documentation skills.
Knowledge that projects require different soft and technical skills depending on the typology of the work.
An eagerness to continually learn and develop one’s professional skills
Demonstrated familiarity with the landscape design and construction standards, as well as best practices, required by local approval authorities.
Willingness to work in a virtual environment to support projects across North America as well as international project opportunities.
Technical skills required:
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Proficiency with AutoCad
Working knowledge of Civil3D, LandFX, and Bluebeam
Skilled in the Adobe suite of graphic software (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.)
Ability to utilize rendering and modeling software such as Sketchup, Rhino, Lumion, etc.
Working knowledge of Revit software packages is not required but considered an asset.
Education and Experience
6 to 8 years of direct professional experience, in a landscape architecture practice
A degree in Landscape Architecture from an accredited university, or a diploma from a technical college focused on landscape architecture, or a combination of related education and experience.
Current licensure as a Landscape Architect is preferred, but not required for candidates.
Certified Irrigation Designer (CID) not required, but considered an asset for potential team members
A portfolio of project work will need to be provided for review. This can either be in pdf format or links to an online portfolio site. Please limit portfolio to ten pages, which illustrates a diversity of project work.

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
