Are you an experienced geotechnical engineer ready to take the next step in your career? We are seeking an intermediate to senior engineer specialized in Northern Climate Geotechnical Engineering to join our team in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories.

The successful candidate will work closely with a local team of environmental, infrastructure and buildings staff in Yellowknife, supported by our Western Canadian Geotechnical Practice of over 200 geotechnical staff.
Your Opportunity
Technical Development: Apply your growing expertise while learning from experienced engineers and contributing to high-quality deliverables. Assess geological and geotechnical conditions and carry out rock mass characterization. Conduct engineering analyses and design for a variety of soil and rock engineering and geotechnical projects related to slope stability, excavations, foundations, permafrost, and mining.
Escape the Office: Perform occasional field work, which may include visual site inspections, geological mapping, UAV or terrestrial photogrammetry, monitoring of borehole drilling, televiewer data acquisition and interpretation, detailed rock core logging, construction monitoring, slope stability assessments, rock fall assessment, anchor testing, and installation of geotechnical instrumentation. The extent of fieldwork may vary depending on the applicants’ interest and experience.
Team Collaboration: Coordinate with project teams across Canada and abroad and contribute to a supportive, growth-focused environment. Mentor and train junior staff to expand our northern climate geotechnical engineering team and shape the next generation of engineers.
Project Delivery: Take ownership of tasks within small to mid-sized projects—supporting planning, analysis, reporting, and client communication with mentorship from senior staff. Begin building client relationships by supporting project delivery and learning to tailor solutions to meet evolving needs.
Innovative Environment: Contribute to forward-thinking projects using tools like UAVs and AI-integrated solutions, with opportunities to collaborate with Stantec’s Innovation Office and Digital Center of Excellence. Help identify areas for improvement and bring fresh ideas to enhance technical processes and project outcomes.

What We're Looking For
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of engineering (such as Civil, Geotechnical, Geological, or Mining Engineering, or Engineering Geology) from a recognized university.
10-15 years of experience in geotechnical engineering or related services.
Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) in good standing with EGBC, or eligible for registration if transferring from another province.
Valid Canadian driver’s license with access to a vehicle.
Ability to live and work in Canada.
Residing in British Columbia or willing to relocate.
Education and Experience

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
