As Director, Investment Management Technology Delivery, you will play a pivotal leadership role in shaping the future of the Investment Management landscape within Scotia Global Asset Management (SGAM).   

This role will focus on leading SGAM Canada initiatives, with a focus on the delivery of a Common Investment Platform (CIP). SGAM CIP is a strategic initiative central to SGAM’s transformation into a truly global investment manager, enabling investment teams across Canada to operate with greater scale, efficiency, and innovation - while preserving their unique investment philosophies and maintaining investment team autonomy. You will lead the development of a unified platform that spans the entire investment lifecycle, including front, middle, and back. This includes work to migrate the JFL Business Line onto the SGAM CIP, in addition to the continuous evolution and enhancements to the platform. 

This is a high-impact, high-visibility role that requires a unique blend of strategic vision, deep understanding of financial markets, technical depth, and leadership excellence in order to effectively oversee critical initiatives. You will collaborate with senior stakeholders across business and technology, lead cross-functional teams, and drive transformation at scale - all while fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, performance, and inclusivity. 

 

Is this role right for you?

  1. Strategic Leadership 
  • In collaboration with the Business, define and drive the long-term vision and roadmap for the CIP. 
  • Provide thought leadership to executive leaders with respect to technology, data, and innovation in Asset Management. 
  • Lead transformation initiatives that align with SGAM’s global strategy. 

 

  1. Platform Development & Optimization 
  • Lead the end-to-end design, development, and continuous improvement of the investment platform, spanning: 
  1. Front-Office: Research & Idea Generation, Portfolio Management, Trade Order & Execution. 
  1. Middle-Office: Investment Compliance, Risk Management, Performance Measurement, Portfolio Admin Operations, Investment Data & Analytics. 
  1. Back-Office: Fund Accounting, Transfer Agency, Account Administration, and Custodian Book of Record. 
  • Ensure seamless integration across systems and regions, enabling consistent, automated, and optimized investment and operational workflows. 

 

  1. Investment Data Strategy 
  • Lead the expansion of a centralized Investment Data Hub to serve as the single source of truth. 
  • Promote a data-driven culture by reducing data costs, enabling self-service analytics, and improving operational efficiency. 

 

  1. Transformation  
  • Drive large-scale transformation initiatives with a focus on user experience, adoption, technology rationalization, cost savings, and cloud migration. 
  • Champion agile delivery practices, ensuring that product backlogs are aligned with strategic priorities and continuously refined. 

 

  1. Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement 
  • Build strong partnerships and an elevated brand with investment teams, technology partners, operations, compliance, and risk functions. 
  • Act as a liaison between the business and delivery squads, translating strategic goals into actionable technology solutions. 
  • Influence and align diverse stakeholder groups across functions. 

 

  1. Product Ownership & Governance 
  • Oversee the development and prioritization of product backlogs and roadmaps for all investment platform capabilities. 
  • Ensure that product strategies are aligned with business goals amidst an evolving regulatory landscape. 

 

  1. Leadership & Talent Development 
  • Build, lead, and mentor high-performing, cross functional delivery squads. 
  • Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous learning. 
  • Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the team and across the organization. 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role?

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Business discipline, Information Technology, Engineering, or Computer Science. 
  • 8 + years of experience in Technology, Asset Management, or Capital Markets. Leadership experience is preferred. 
  • CFA designation is considered an asset. 
  • Proven track record of delivering large-scale transformation initiatives. 
  • In-depth understanding of financial products/markets, capital markets, and investment operations. 
  • Experience in investment risk domains, including market risk, credit risk, and liquidity. 
  • In-depth knowledge and experience working with investment management applications, including Charles River, SimCorp, S&P EDM, Eagle, Barra One, and Bloomberg. 
  • Thorough knowledge of Agile processes, development best practices, and principles. 
  • Exceptional communication, stakeholder management, and strategic thinking skills, with demonstrated ability to engage and influence stakeholders at different levels within an organization. 
  • Strong problem solver with demonstrated analytical capabilities. 
  • Excellent organizational skills, with strong attention to detail. 
  • Curious and experimental mindset to drive innovation amidst uncertainty. 
  • Demonstrated thought leadership abilities.
