Purpose

 

The Finance Department at Tangerine is primarily responsible for the capture and reporting of financial information for internal and external audiences in accordance with applicable standards. Specifically, Tangerine Finance manages accounting, recording and reporting of accounting and tax information.

 

In addition, the Finance Department performs other important functions:
•    Treasury Administration function administers securitization transactions and ensures transaction details are accurately captured in our administrative systems so that they can be properly valued, accurately accounted for and appropriately cash settled
•    Accounts Payable team ensures that all outstanding obligations are discharged on a timely basis
•    Management Accounting Team provides reporting and analysis to support senior management decision making and prepares forecasts each month as to the Bank's expected earnings. The Management Accounting Team works with the Strategy department and the business to prepare the annual Plan.

 

The Finance Department continually assesses risks and controls and takes action to ensure there is an effective system of internal control over financial reporting and other Finance functions. Finance also supports the business to ensure the successful implementation of corporate initiatives.  

 

 

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

 

•    Download and process bank activity daily.
•    Set up fixed assets in the Peoplesoft Asset Management sub-ledger.
•    Prepare weekly payment request for CMHC, CG and GE.
•    Prepare daily and weekly wire request for various payment types.
•    Adhoc cheque clearing for MBS cheques.
•    Update month-end foreign exchange rates in IBS.
•    Prepare bank deposits.
•    Send, retrieve and track boxes at off-site storage.
•    Prepare and set up weekly/monthly/quarterly and yearly for various tax remittance.
•    Prepare wires for collection items for cheques cashed outside Canada by clients.

•    Prepare monthly Loan & Mortgage Insurance summary to AP for remitting insurance premiums to Canada Life.
•    Ensure monthly bank statements are filed and available for the department
•    Monitor and guide team members in investigating and resolving settlement discrepancies.
•    Assist other Finance staff with information requests and investigations into reconciling items.
•    Ensure procedures are regularly reviewed for all routine Accounting Operations processes.
•    Initiate the automation initiative to treasury reporting function
•    Backup other team members as required.
•    Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience

  • University or College Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business is an asset
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience
  • Experience using Peoplesoft

 

Technical Skills 

  • Good computer skills and strong systems understanding
  • Experience using Peoplesoft GL and AM will be an asset

 

Abilities 

  • Strong ability to multi-task
  • Ability to have a heightened awareness of and adherence to tight deadlines
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and demanding environment
