The Senior Manager – Data Risk Oversight (Business Line & Regional) will be part of the Data and AI Risk team in Global Risk Management reporting to the Director – Data Risk. The Senior Manager will be responsible for driving Data risk management oversight activities, in Canada and globally, ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. The Senior Manager will work with the Director and the team to ensure that the Bank’s exposure to data risk is effectively identified, measured, monitored and reported.

 

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will: 

  • Support the implementation of the Data Risk Management Program Plan and associated activities in the assigned North American and/or International Scotiabank business unit(s), and/or subsidiaries.
  • Conduct 2nd line review and challenge of the design and operating effectiveness of data risk management controls developed and implemented by the first line of defense.
  • Lead and coordinate issues management activities by proactively identifying, reporting, and escalating data management risk issues or control weaknesses to senior management, ensuring timely resolution and effective remediation in alignment with regulatory requirements and internal standards.
  • Contribute to executive and board-level reporting that synthesize complex information into clear, actionable insights that communicate risk posture, compliance status, and key risk indicators.
  • Ensure internal processes and documentation are fully aligned with applicable regulatory requirements (e.g., OSFI E-21, E-23), including conducting gap assessments, implementing action plans for remediation, and maintaining evidence of compliance. Oversee periodic reviews and updates to address regulatory changes and coordinate with stakeholders to resolve identified issues in a timely manner.
  • Maintain and develop strong partnerships with other risk functions and first line business partners by providing professional advice, expertise, and guidance on the design, implementation, and best practices of effective data risk controls, metrics, compliance, and risk mitigation.
  • Identify opportunities and execute enhancement to the data risk oversight practice.
  • Maintain and enhance data risk documentation (procedures, templates, etc.).
  • Foster an inclusive and collaborative team environment and prioritize team goals.
  • Champion a high-performance environment and contribute to an inclusive work environment.

 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:  

  • Undergraduate and/or graduate degree in a relevant field.
  • 5+ years of experience in data management, data governance, internal control, risk management, compliance, audit or related areas.
  • In depth knowledge of data management risk and data governance/management requirements (e.g., data quality, data lineage, etc.) and relevant regulations (e.g. OSFI E-21, E-23).
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare executive level board reporting, synthesizing complex information into clear, actionable insights.
  • Excellent analytical skills, conceptual thinking, and systematic problem-solving abilities; comfortable dealing with ambiguity.
  • Strong relationship management skills with a proven track record of engaging and presenting to stakeholders.
  • Strong written and communication skills with the ability to simplify and convey complex technical concepts.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Spanish is considered an asset for stakeholder communication and regional projects.
  • Experience in a testing or audit role within a financial institution is an asset.
  • Proactive, self-directed, and able to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
