About the position

Duties
The Official Languages Coordinator is responsible for implementing and monitoring compliance with the Official Languages Act within the organization.
Key duties include:
↪ planning and coordinating language evaluations for employees,
↪ managing linguistic profiles in departmental systems, and
↪ liaising with the Public Service Commission for testing.
The coordinator ensures that communications, services, and documentation are available in both official languages, provides strategic advice to managers on language requirements for positions, and contributes to the development of policies and practices that promote a bilingual work environment.
The coordinator also serves as the primary point of contact for official languages inquiries and ensures adherence to government and departmental directives.

⛴ Naval reservists are individuals who are fully engaged in their civilian lives while pursuing a military career. They work for the Navy in the evenings, on weekends, and during the summer in a trade of their choice. They may be students, teachers, lawyers, delivery drivers, administrative assistants, or other members of society. Most serve part-time, with no obligation to participate in overseas missions. However, many full-time employment and deployment opportunities are available for reservists who volunteer. Naval reservists are active members of your community, willing to share their experiences and testify to the commitment of the Canadian Armed Forces and our government to defend our country and its people.

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION:
▶ A secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives (see Notes 1 & 2).
Notes:
1. The employer-approved alternatives to a secondary school diploma are:
↪ A satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; or
↪ An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
⚠️ Candidates who already meet both of the following criteria must be accepted as meeting the secondary school diploma requirement:
↪ Candidates who have achieved a satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; and
↪ Candidates who have been appointed or deployed for an indeterminate period to a position in the AS classification.
⚠️The opportunity to be assessed by at least one of the two employer-approved alternatives must be offered to candidates who have not previously met the secondary school diploma requirement.
⚠️ Candidates who were appointed or deployed on an indeterminate basis using an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience meet the secondary school requirement for the AS classification only and must be reassessed for entry to other classifications on the basis of this alternative.
2. Acceptable experience and/or training in a field relevant to positions in the AS classification is required when the education qualification specified for the position being staffed is a secondary school diploma or approved employer alternatives.

▶ Experience coordinating and administering official languages activities, including second language training, testing, and translation requests.
▶ Experience preparing written documents such as reports, briefing notes, and official communications.
