Purpose

 

This role is responsible for helping drive the evolution of the Global Finance and Group Treasury function to enable greater efficiency, agility and strategic value for the Bank. Provides strategic direction, leadership and oversight of the Global Finance Strategic plan globally ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are supported in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

 

The incumbent will help shape the strategic vision, lead the execution roadmap and help drive cross-functional collaboration within Global Finance and with internal partners in Technology, GRM, CIDA, Enterprise Strategy and other Business Partners to ensure sustainable change across people, process and technology workstreams. This role is key to reimagining the way Global Finance operates, including enhancing automation and bringing in tools such as AI, and delivering scalable solutions that elevate insight, efficiency, and regulatory strength.

 

 

Accountabilities

 

Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.

 

Vision And Change Agenda

  • Leads the development of the strategic vision and change agenda, including defining the future-state operating model for Global Finance that is aligned with the Bank’s Strategy and goals.
  • Designs and articulates a clear transformation roadmap covering people, process and technology dimensions.
  • Establishes guiding principles for modernization (eg: automation, data-driven decision-making, digital enablement, software currency, etc.)
  • Creates the change strategy in partnership with relevant stakeholders to drive adoption of modern finance technologies, advanced analytics, and automation to improve efficiency, insights, and decision support.

 

Execution of Transformation Initiatives

  • Governs and prioritizes initiatives across the various workstreams and within the agreed upon constraints (Funding, internal capacity, competing priorities, etc…).
  • Monitors progress to deliver on business outcomes, helps define KPIs, manages risks and works with the Senior GF Management team and other key stakeholders to remove roadblocks to deliver outcomes on time and within budget.
  • Leads (and/or co-leads) key strategic transformation initiatives across the Global Finance function, ensuring alignment with enterprise goals, operational excellence, and future-ready capabilities.
    • Streamlines and standardizes core finance processes across geographies.

 

Stakeholder Engagement & Change Management

  • Creates the change management strategy for the Global Finance transformation agenda.
  • Champions change management and communication strategies to foster adoption and cultural alignment across the finance organization.  
  • Champions a culture shift toward agility, innovation, and data-driven decision-making; lead communication and training efforts to embed new ways of working.
  • Partners closely with business leaders, CFO, CIO, broader stakeholder internally and externally to ensure Finance transformation meets both functional and enterprise needs.
  • Directs day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank’s risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statement and limits.  Communicates the Bank’s risk culture and risk appetite statement throughout their teams.
  • Creates an environment where the team pursues effective and efficient operations of key areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
  • Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning for the team.

 

 

Education / Experience / Other Information

 

  • Business degree required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of banking and industry experience
  • Management consultant experience is an asset.
  • Deep stakeholder management experience — including Technology, Risk, Internal Audit, and Business Finance15+ years of progressive experience in finance transformation, controllership, enterprise program delivery, or finance operations within a global bank or advisory firm.
  • 7+ years of experience in management consulting, corporate strategy, or strategic operations preferred — especially in roles involving financial insight delivery or operating model design.
  • Proven leadership of high-impact teams and cross-functional initiatives across Finance, Technology, and Business.
  • Demonstrable success in coordinating large-scale projects involving geographically and functionally diverse stakeholders.
  • Strategic influencing and negotiating skills to effectively persuade and influence peers and senior management.

 

 

Working Conditions          

 

  • Work in a standard office-based environment; non-standard hours are a common occurrence.  Limited travel internationally.
