The Team:

Global Banking and Markets Engineering (GBME) team is the fast-moving, award-winning technology engine that powers Scotia’s Capital Markets businesses.

The Role:

As part of an application team focused on the institutional equities and derivatives lines of business, you will be a Senior Full Stack Software Engineer for several in-house developed applications and vendor solutions associated with post-trade processing for the Institutional Global Equities and Derivatives (listed Options/Futures) lines of business.

Responsibility will also include support for resolution of daily operational issues as well as leading business and system analysis.  The incumbent is also responsible for participating in projects for new systems or enhancements, working with development personnel, as well as leading Agile scrums.  The candidate will work with other technology groups and vendors.

  • You understand Institutional Equity markets and proactively solve business challenges through code. As a self-starter, you are confident in your abilities to analyze needs and processes, translating them into practical software solutions. You excel at finding and implementing optimal approaches to improve throughput in high-volume, near real-time environments.
  • You design end user procedures and workflows, and work with diverse technologies to build and enhance systems that integrate seamlessly. You focus on efficient, scalable code and continually seek improvements.
  • Collaborating with product management, software engineers, business system analysts, and stakeholders, you define technical requirements, present solutions and deliver reliable software using automated testing, regression suites, and DevOps practices.
  • You oversee solution design and architecture, emphasizing scalability, availability, and security.
  • You champion high performance and inclusivity in the team and partner with the Architecture team for scalable designs enhancing user experience by addressing complex queries. Your proven mentoring abilities support other developers, and you communicate effectively across audiences while training end users as needed.
  • Develop implementation strategies and use best practices to reduce operational cost.                        

 

 

 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We’d love to work with you if you have:

 

  • Over 5 years developing enterprise applications in multiple modern languages (Java, Angular, CSS, JavaScript, JQuery, Bootstrap), including microservices architecture and design patterns.
  • More than 5 years working with Linux/Unix systems and scripting.
  • 10+ years of SQL or query language expertise and database design.
  • Skilled with DevOps tools (Kubernetes, Rancher, build/deploy pipelines).
  • Knowledge of Messaging Bus technologies (Kafka, MQ, FIX, JMS, Solace).
  • Experience with institutional equities workflows and direct interaction with front office and operations.
  • Familiarity with automation and scheduling tools (Airflow, Tidal, Nifi).
  • Led development teams.
  • Lead and manage Agile SCRUM standups.
  • Strong grasp of design patterns and best practices.
  • Effective communicator with technical and non-technical audiences, including executives.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
