The Opportunity:

We’re looking for an insightful and analytical UX designer who knows how to follow a user-centered design approach to create incredible user experiences—and can also explain why their designs will work.

As a member of our Product Design team, you’ll work with a cross-functional group of UX professionals focused on creating meaningful experiences for people. As UX designer, your job will be to turn business and user requirements into plans for intuitive, accessible and engaging web pages, websites, and applications. You’ll be responsible for user/screen flows, information architecture, interaction design, UI layout, visual design, A/B testing and more.

This might be a good role for you if:

  • Your creativity is grounded in deep analysis: you have great ideas, but they’re backed by research and testing.

  • You understand people: you have an interest in consumer behaviour, psychology and sociology.

  • You have a user-centric mindset: your own preferences don’t matter—nor do anyone else’s, other than the person at the other end of the screen.

  • You’ve got high standards and an objective approach: you’re unafraid to be merciless with your own work if something has been proven not to work.

  • You’re driven and adaptable: you see challenges as puzzles to be solved, not roadblocks, and aren’t flustered by rapidly changing requirements and priorities.

  • You’re curious and self-motivated: you can figure out what needs to be done—and then do it.

Your everyday with us will consist of:

  • Collaborating with a wide cross-section of colleagues to understand business objectives for digital products, assess user wants and needs, and influence user-focused solutions, with a focus on driving continuous improvement.

  • Working hand-in-hand with Content Designers and UX Researchers to shape user experiences through collaborative planning, research, and content strategy that aligns with user needs and business goals.

  • Translating ideas and concepts into user flow diagrams, site maps, sketches, wireframes, interactive prototypes, styleguides, and other UX design deliverables, and rapidly testing/iterating your work.

  • Working with front-end developers to bring your ideas to life and fine-tune the finished product.

  • Collaborate with UX colleagues to identify opportunities across digital properties for A/B testing, usability research, and user feedback—while continuously reviewing product usage and success to inform a user-centric roadmap.

  • Presenting your work to colleagues and senior management in meetings and demos, and confidently explaining decisions using UX best practice rationale, user testing or research data.

What you need to succeed:

  • Proven experience in UX design for software, websites and web/mobile applications (portfolio required).

  • Post-secondary degree in applicable field.

  • High proficiency with wireframing tools (e.g. Figma), as well as associated design apps.

  • Solid grasp of user-centered design methodologies, other standard UX principles and practices.

  • Understanding of responsive design, designing for accessibility, and standard iOS/Android design patterns.

  • Leverage tools like Google Analytics and other user data sources to inform design decisions, optimize user flows, and validate design hypotheses through data-driven insights.

  • Basic HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript skills are a plus. (You won’t be coding, but you’ll be working with developers to properly implement your designs.)

  • Collaborative approach, openness to feedback, and deadline-oriented mindset.

  • Well-honed interpersonal skills to negotiate priorities and deliverables, resolve conflicts, and communicate clearly and professionally—all remotely.

  • Solid organizational skills and a cool head to cope with rapidly changing information, coordinate multiple projects at once, and meet deadlines.

  • Be passionate about all things UX and other areas of design, technology and innovation.

Please provide a portfolio of recent work for websites or other digital formats.

Security Clearance Requirement: In conjunction with our contract with the Federal Government, you will be required to have Reliability Status Clearance (Enhanced Level B).  This includes Fingerprinting, Criminal Record Check, Credit Check and you must have resided in Canada for at least 5 years and hold Permanent Resident or Citizenship Status.

What we offer:

  • Permanent full-time position with opportunity to grow in a well-established organization

  • Flexible work arrangements and emphasis on work-life balance

  • Remote and hybrid work options

  • Comprehensive health, vision and dental plan that is 100% employer paid effective on your first day

  • 100% employer-matched Defined Contribution Pension Plan

  • Annual Incentive Bonus which recognizes your contribution to our success

  • In addition to paid vacation, we offer a gifted week of vacation in your first year and an optional Vacation Purchase Program

  • An organization where we encourage personal learning and growth with opportunities for career development and advancement

  • Providing wellness benefits, health resources and fitness centre discounts

Who we are

We’re a team of over 8,000 professionals serving clients from coast-to-coast with operations in most provinces. We provide health benefits to nearly 1 in 10 Canadians and manage emergency medical services for nearly 1 in 15 Canadians.

We’ve been a leading health services partner for individuals, employers and governments across Canada for 80 years and a premier all-in-one carrier that provides health, dental, travel, life and disability benefits to individuals and organizations.

We've been recognized as one of Canada's Most Admired Corporate Cultures, one of Canada's Top 100 Employers, and an Imagine Caring Company.

What we value

Our values are inherent to our culture and provide the framework for each interaction we have and transaction we make, while providing a clear set of expectations to empower employees to do the right thing for everyone we serve. We are:

Caring – We show compassion in everything we do

Accountable – We follow through on our commitments

Responsive – We have the courage to act and adapt

Innovative – We encourage and value new ideas

More than simply a poster on the wall, our mission of improving the wellbeing of Canadians represents the purpose of our organization ― and we align that with our culture.

What we give back

As a not-for-profit organization, we don’t answer to shareholders. Instead, we invest our earnings in our business, our communities and, most importantly, our employees. We use some of these earnings to support:

Programs to support causes that are close to our employees' hearts, matching the volunteer hours and donations they contribute

An annual United Way workplace campaign led by employees in each of our locations

The Medavie Foundation, which invests in community initiatives and organizations that improve the wellbeing of Canadians, focuses on some of the most pressing mental and physical health challenges facing Canadians.

We want to meet you as you are

At Medavie Blue Cross, we foster a culture of openness, understanding and a sense of belonging where everyone can bring their true selves to work. Nearly 70% of our management roles are held by women and we’re committed to creating a diverse, equitable and inclusive workplace where everyone is valued for who they are and what they contribute. We will accommodate people with disabilities during the recruitment, selection and hiring processes.

Flexible work options: We want you to work where you work best. We offer work from home, from the office, or a hybrid of the two, while ensuring you feel connected to your team and to our purpose. Our flexibility goes beyond location. We also have flexible working hours and part-time options available.
