Operating as a member of the Ministry’s Assurance and Financial Systems team in the Financial Reporting and Operations area within the Financial Services Branch, and reporting to the Manager, Assurance and Financial Systems, the Assurance Analyst will possess skills necessary to conduct independent assessments on the Ministry’s divisions, branches, and program areas’ financial, operational, and internal control processes to determine if they are operating effectively. To be effective, the Assurance Analyst must bring developed knowledge and experience to plan, conduct, and report on compliance projects in accordance with established standards.
The main responsibilities of the position are:
•Risk analysis, and planning through the identification of priorities based on risk to the Ministry/ Divisions/ Branches/ Program Areas.
•Planning, conducting, documenting, reporting on compliance engagements based on established standards.
•Communicating with clients and management.
•Ensuring compliance engagements are conducted effectively, efficiently and in a timely manner.
To be successful in this role, you will possess:
•Knowledge of internal audit and accounting standards, principles and best practices; plus, knowledge in several of the following area: internal control practices, risk analysis, organizational theory, management concepts, finance, economics, and information technology.
•Experience working with government or enterprise financial and management information systems.
•Communication (verbal & written), relationship development, creative problem solving, and analytical skills.
•Integrity, excellent professional judgement, and leadership ability.

Minimum Requirements:
•University degree in a related field (i.e., business, commerce, finance, accounting) and eligible for enrollment in a recognized accounting or auditing program leading to an accounting or auditing designation, such as CPA (or legacy designations CA, CMA, CGA) or CIA, plus two years of audit, compliance or related accounting experience.
•Equivalency: one-year experience for one year of education or one year of education for one year of experience, and is enrolled and actively pursuing a recognized accounting or auditing designation such as CPA or CIA.
Required:
•A working knowledge of several of the following areas: internal control practices, risk analysis, organizational theory, management concepts, finance, economics and information technology
The following areas would be considered an asset:
•Two or more years of directly related auditing or compliance experience
•A certified internal auditor (CIA) designation
•Knowledge of enterprise financial and management information systems and their application in compliance reviews
