Our government client is seeking a Senior Technician with a Chemistry background to perform advanced chemical and physical testing in support of laboratory operations. This position plays a key role in supporting the evaluation of materials and fuels using specialized analytical instrumentation to meet operational and engineering needs.
Perform physical and chemical testing of fuels, specialty chemicals, gases, metals, and polymers using techniques such as chromatography, spectroscopy, and microscopy
Operate and maintain laboratory instruments including FTIR, GC-MS, LC-MS, NMR, elemental analyzers, and thermal oxidation testers
Conduct troubleshooting and maintenance for analytical equipment following Standard Operating Procedures
Develop new test methods and support the writing and revision of SOPs
Record results in laboratory logs and prepare formal test reports with interpretation and conclusions
Participate in hazardous material inventory management and prepare forms for stock orders
Support evaluations for chemical compatibility, fuel quality, flammability, and corrosion mitigation
Analyze test data and provide technical insight for ongoing research or engineering projects
Ensure safety compliance while working in a laboratory with hazardous materials and Controlled Goods
Prepare monthly progress reports summarizing activities, issues, and recommendations
Diploma or degree in analytical chemistry or a related field from a recognized academic institution
Minimum of five (5) years of recent experience conducting maintenance troubleshooting on at least three types of analytical chemistry instrumentation, including chromatography systems, spectroscopes, or fuel testers
At least five (5) years of experience with optical or electronic microscopy analysis methods
Experience conducting test methods for specification testing of aviation fuels
Proven hands-on experience with liquid or gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry
Experience in Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy
Demonstrated ability to analyze results, interpret complex data, and write technical reports
Strong understanding of safety standards and PPE use in laboratory environments
Fluent in English, both written and spoken, and able to work full-time on-site at a secure government laboratory
