Assisted Living and Social Services (ALSS) provides supports for seniors, families, and communities, and helps Albertans access disability services, continuing care, financial supports, affordable housing, services for the homeless, and other social-based programs. The Strategic Services Division helps define and support the strategic direction of the department. It is responsible for effective strategic planning, coordinated policy development, informed decision making and overall improvement of services provided to Albertans. Strategic Services leads a range of functions including the ministry's strategic policy development and policy integration, governance and appeals, intergovernmental relations, research and analysis, quality assurance, continuous improvement, training and evaluation of services provided to Albertans and analytics and data integration for the ministry.
The Strategic Policy, Priority Coordination and Appeals Branch leads the ministry's policy development at the strategic level and provides strategic advice to support policy development and policy alignment and integration at the program and operational levels across all policy domains and program areas. The Branch is responsible for broad social policy review, analysis and advice considering ministry, cross-ministry and cross-government context for policy framing. It is also responsible for identifying potential policy impacts, supporting policy alignment and integration and strategic direction setting.

The Strategic Policy, Priority Coordination and Appeals Branch of the Strategic Services Division is looking for a Senior Policy Analyst to lead and provide support to a wide array of government and ministry priorities. Operating in a fast-paced and dynamic division, you will play a key role in project management and advanced policy analysis associated with the development, review, evaluation, and implementation of provincial ALSS policy and programs, as well as in contributing to decision-making processes within the Ministry and the Government of Alberta.
As an ideal candidate for this role, you will possess a strong understanding of the Ministry, as well as in-depth knowledge of the policy development processes. You will also have a strong background in policy research and analysis, allowing you to quickly identify the most appropriate sources to seek out required information, identify and compile emerging issues, and develop contextual foresight. The ability to create strategic partnerships among corporate branches, program delivery divisions and cross-ministry partners will be a strength of yours, allowing you to ensure collaboration, and, ultimately, effective strategic policy design and implementation.
This position demands a high level of creativity, originality and innovation, independent research, ability to identify strategic implications, define issues, and develop creative and appropriate policy options. Projects are usually diverse and deal with strategically sensitive and complex policy issues that are closely related to the department and government’s policy objectives. Policy issues involved are often unique in nature, with limited precedence to be found within the Ministry or in other jurisdictions.
