As the Director & Head, Retail & Small Business Credit Risk Decisioning Models, you will provide strategic direction, leadership and oversight of the Bank’s Retail and Small Business risk models and segmentations.  Portfolios include models used for retail and small business decisioning, across Canada and the Caribbean. You will be accountable for both the ongoing maintenance of existing models, as well as building new models and leading transformation initiatives, including but not limited to process and methodology enhancements.

 

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Lead and drive a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Lead a team of data scientists, analysts, and risk management associates by supporting lines of business and risk management partners with world-class data, models, advanced analytics, insights and advice. 
  • Be accountable for all aspects of the Bank’s Retail and Small Business risk models across the entire model lifecycle – from conception to development, execution and governance. Lead the strategic planning, development, implementation, deployment, monitoring and management of retail, small business product and customer decisioning models, customer prioritization models, valuation and profitability frameworks, income prediction and pricing models in collaboration with relevant partners and stakeholders.
  • Ensure that innovative predictive models and segmentations supporting various business lines are built to balance industry leading methodologies and regulatory requirements while minimizing operation risk.
  • Drive initiatives that incorporate large scale and complex traditional and non-traditional data sources and methodologies that identify opportunities which enhance model performance, as well as identify, promote and lead process improvements including streamlining, automating, and standardizing processes.
  • Partner and effectively communicate with key stakeholders to understand priorities and execute using operating models and capabilities, cloud and on-premise technology platforms, structured, semi-structured and unstructured big data, AI& ML methodologies, advanced analytics, productivity tools, Generative AI and automation.
  • Actively engage stakeholders in Risk, Business Line, and Technology to understand changes to products, policies, data and processes that may impact the model lifecycle activities for any existing or new models and identify required changes/improvements.
  • Collaborate, on a regular basis, with a wide range of stakeholders and internal partners including Model Operations, Product, Risk Strategy & Risk Management, Model Validation and Governance, Technology & Data, Compliance and Audit.
  • Build a high-performance environment and implement a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning for the team.

 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Business Administration or a quantitative discipline is required
  • Expert understanding of predictive modeling methodologies combined with practical application
  • Excellent knowledge of origination, portfolio management, and collection models, policies, processes and systems
  • Knowledge of robust data infrastructures required for model development, analytics and reporting.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills
  • A demonstrated history of strategic planning, technical and data leadership, analytic problem solving and sound judgment delivering both “quick wins” and “enduring quality”
  • Excellent time management, planning and organizing skills to manage multiple priorities, deliver quickly under pressure, and meet timelines
  • Excellent interpersonal, relationship building and communication skills (written and verbal), with an ability to convey complex technical issues effectively and constructively to stakeholders across business lines and senior management
