The HR Generalist (Training & Development Focus) plays a key role in implementing enterprise-wide learning and talent development strategies while ensuring programs are tailored to local business needs. In addition to leading Training & Development initiatives, the role also provides generalist HR support, including employee relations, talent management, and recruitment.
Responsibilities:
Training & Development (Primary Focus)
- Partner with leadership teams to assess development needs, identify skills gaps, and deliver localized learning programs that enhance safety, productivity, and capability for both salaried and hourly employees.
- Work closely with TWI teams to facilitate manufacturing-focused training, including:
- Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Technical skills (equipment operation, maintenance)
- Quality standards and continuous improvement techniques (Lean, 5S)
- On-the-Job Training (Training Within Industry methodology)
- Leadership development for team leads and supervisors
- Collaborate with HR and business leaders to identify current and future leadership development needs and design programs that support leadership competencies and professional growth for salaried employees.
- Maintain training matrices and ensure certification records are compliant, accurate, and audit-ready.
- Support apprenticeship programs by fostering partnerships with local colleges and universities.
- Recommend enhancements to training delivery methods and advocate for a culture of ongoing learning.
- Ensure training programs are engaging, consistent, and aligned with organizational goals.
Human Resources Generalist
- Support talent management activities, including performance management, employee relations, and talent acquisition.
- Assist with engagement initiatives and internal communications.
- Contribute to employee relations matters, including investigations and conflict resolution, under HR leadership guidance.
- Provide dedicated HR advisory support to employees on organizational changes and HR-related matters.
- Maintain strong visibility across the workforce, addressing concerns promptly and professionally.
- Collaborate with the HR Manager on strategic and operational initiatives; act as a point of contact during their absence when delegated.
- Promote a positive and inclusive workplace culture through proactive HR support.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, HR, Psychology, Industrial Relations, or equivalent, plus a Human Resources diploma.
- 5+ years of HR Generalist or Training/Development experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of instructional design, adult learning principles, and training evaluation.
- Skilled in facilitation, coaching, communication, and presenting; comfortable supporting training on the shop floor.
- Proficient in MS Office; LMS experience is an asset.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- Analytical, detail-oriented, and results-driven.
- Demonstrates initiative and creativity in developing training solutions.
- Able to exercise sound judgment, work independently, and maintain confidentiality.
- Certifications such as CHRP, Train-the-Trainer, CPTD, or Health & Safety are strong assets.
