The Team

Global Banking and Markets Engineering (GBME) is the fast-moving, award-winning technology engine that powers Scotiabank’s Corporate, Investment Banking and Capital Markets businesses.

The Role

 

The Director, Capital Markets Risk Technology, is responsible for the strategic direction, leadership and oversight of the GBME risk technology team with a focus on centralization, scalability and modernization of the risk and analytic platforms. The successful candidate is a proven technology leader, with experience managing teams and ideally expertise in risk related systems. The role involves close partnership with business stakeholders including Trade floor Risk Management, Front office desks, Financial Engineering and COO. The role will work alongside cross functional engineer leads to design, enhance and support sustainable and scalable solutions for Global Banking and Markets’ risk management.

 

Is this role right for you? In this role you will:

 

  • Lead and mentor a team consisting of senior managers, engineers, business analysts and support staff responsible for risk and analytics platforms.
  • Collaborate with other technology teams and financial engineering to ensure consistency and alignment in bank strategy and implementation
  • Modernize and simplify existing architecture landscape and move towards a unified design for risk management
  • Build and maintain a strong relationship with stakeholders and foster an environment of collaboration
  • Keep up to date with technologies, trends and regulations that may impact the business
  • Interface other internal business teams such as compliance and internal control, audit
  • Ensure all activities comply with internal policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Build a high-performance environment and sustain a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment
  • Use a coaching mindset and behavior; communicate business strategies and manage succession and development for the team

 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We’d love to work with you if you have:

 

  • Minimum 8-10 years of experience with risk management systems in capital markets
  • General understanding of Capital Markets and derivatives knowledge
  • Experience with risk computational type of systems (e.g RiskWatch), an asset
  • Software development experience ideally in building risk and analytics systems
  • Strong leadership, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
  • Team player and demonstrated ability to collaborate across business and technology groups
  • Demonstrated excellence in people management, including coaching, mentoring, and developing talent
  • Computer Science Degree or equivalent

 

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Familiarity with cloud computing, APIs, and data analytics in financial services
