Duties
The specific duties vary between the trades and typical day of tasks will need to be adjusted depending on the demands and needs of our clients and partners. As Victor Eaton, puts it: “A typical day is not so typical. There are many aspects of work and many ways to grow and learn from all of the Trades that are established on the Hay River Coast Guard Base. As a small base, everyone pitches in to be productive and achieve all of the tasks at hand. The Hay River Base has a fully functional Carpenter’s Shop, Mechanic’s Bay and Welding Shop.”Duties may include working on small engines, pumps and skimmers of varying in size and manufacturer, at either the Hay River Coast Guard base or at one of the environmental response depots located around the region. Frequent travel in a helicopter, all-terrain vehicles as well as in small and large vessels to perform installations, commissioning and maintenance of the navigational aids along the shores of the Mackenzie River, Great Slave Lake and Arctic waters including Hudson Bay.

Intent of the process
The intent of this process is to establish a pool of qualified candidates to staff one (1) indeterminate position in Hay River, NT. A pool of qualified candidates will be created and may be used to staff similar positions on a temporary or permanent basis.

Valid driver’s license.
Obtain and maintain a Health Canada scientific field Cat III medical.
Isolated post medical (if applicable).
Travel for up to 3 week periods of time to remote sites via trucks, boats and aircraft, travel could berequired outside the regional area.
Lift objects weighing 20 kg or less.
Work in an operational environment, including the need to work overtime, on weekends and travel onshort notice.
Travel by various modes of transportation (e.g. boat, automobile, plane, helicopter, etc.) and perform workat remote sites and/or on vessels at sea.
Work at remote sites over rugged terrain and work outdoors in extremes of environmental conditions onland and at sea.
Climb towers and work at heights in excess of 2.4m.

Possession of a Valid Inter-Provincial Journeyman Electrical Trades Certification or experience maintaining,repairing and installing low voltage lighting systems;Possession of a Valid Inter-Provincial Journeyman Trades Certification in one of the following: Heavy DutyMechanic, Automotive Mechanic, Pipe Fitter, Millwright or Machinist.

Experience in field or remote site operations.
Experience working with helicopters.
Experience working in a marine environment and basic seamanship.
Experience maintaining generators, pumps or skimmers.
Experience maintaining outboard motors.
Experience in mechanical repairs such as small engines, small boats, etc.
