Purpose

 

We are seeking a highly motivated Investment Banking Associate to join Scotiabank’s Mid-Market Investment Banking team. The Associate will play a critical role in executing transactions, managing junior team members, and supporting senior bankers in delivering corporate finance advisory services to clients. This is an opportunity to work on complex, high-profile mid-market deals across diverse industries.

 

Accountabilities:

 

  • Transaction Execution: day-to-day management of live mandates including M&A, capital raises, and other advisory assignments.
  • Financial Analysis & Valuation: Review and refine financial models, valuations (DCF, precedent transactions, trading comps), and other analytical work prepared by Analysts.
  • Client Interaction: Participate in client meetings and interface directly with client management teams.
  • Presentation Materials: draft and review key materials (pitchbooks, confidential information memoranda, management presentations, board materials).
  • Process Management: Coordinate due diligence processes with buyers, sellers, legal counsel, accountants, and other stakeholders.
  • Business Development Support: Assist Vice Presidents, Directors, and Managing Directors with pitch materials, industry research, and idea generation to drive new mandates.
  • Team Leadership: Manage and mentor Analysts, providing oversight on workstreams and fostering professional development. Champions a high-performance environment and contributes to an inclusive work environment.
  • Risk Culture: Directs day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank’s risk culture and risk appetite.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Reporting Relationships:  Associate Director, Mid-Market Mergers & Acquisitions Advisory

Education/Experience:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related discipline; MBA, CFA, or CPA designation is an asset but not required.
  • 2–5 years of relevant work experience, ideally including 2 years as an Investment Banking Analyst or equivalent role (e.g., corporate development, private equity).
  • Strong research, financial modeling, valuation, accounting and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and writing abilities.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple workstreams under tight timelines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Team-oriented with leadership potential and strong attention to detail.

 

Working Conditions

 

Work in a standard office-based and work-from-home environment; non-standard hours are a common occurrence. Domestic / international travel as required, as appropriate and subject to senior management approval / permission.
