The Senior Manager, Development contributes to the overall success of the Global Wealth Engineering globally ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives.  Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. The role entails the development and support of various critical wealth management applications with time sensitivity around both, development, and support.

 

This position will be directly reporting to Director, Development and will have up to 20-25 direct reports which will include full-time employees and contractors. Direct reports will have varying titles & skills like Scrum Master, Application Engineers, Business System Analyst, Support analyst, Quality Assurance Engineers, etc.

 

The applicant should possess excellent problem-solving skills, who can technically troubleshoot issues/problems independently and provide solutions. The applicant must possess the ability to work with technology focused peers and work on multiple projects concurrently.  For this role the candidate should ideally understand agile and waterfall methodologies and be capable of thriving in a fast paced, challenging work environment and demonstrate initiative and eagerness to learn.

 

Is this role right for you? In this role you will:

 

  • Lead Engineering teams to delivery on business values through planning, discovery, execution and learning phases. 
  • Monitor program level risks and dependencies, sharing information with value stream stakeholders.
  • Identify and address team and program level disfunctions.
  • Closely collaborate at the program level with peers to ensure effective and efficient communication between teams.
  • Be the change champion to create structural and cultural changes in the organization to become more agile.
  • Be responsible for hiring, evaluating, mentoring, and grooming a team of direct reports.
  • Be accountable for the development and support activities for all the applications in your portfolio.
  • Champion a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Be responsible for monthly financials and allocation for employees and contractors.
  • Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

  • 10+ years of experience in leading technical teams
  • Proven track record in delivering large scale multi-year projects/program.
  • Ability to lead software development teams on tight deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with different stakeholders with an open mindset.
  • Ability to quickly adapt and build a deep technical knowledge of their team’s deliverable and operating model.
  • Have a continuous improvement mindset and be willing to lead by example.
  • Familiar in the implementation and support of vendor products and managing vendor relationships.
  • Knowledge on Wealth Management business will be an asset.
  • Knowledge or experience with AS400 is preferred
  • Knowledge and experience with Audit (IT audit, SOX, etc.) processes is an asset
  • Banking domain knowledge (tax processing, statements, etc.) would be a preference.
