The Manager, Loan Operations is responsible for leading a high-performing team in delivering accurate and timely administrative services for corporate credit facilities. These facilities are originated by Global Banking and Markets (GBM) and other Bank of Nova Scotia (BNS) business lines, where the Bank acts as an agent, participant lender, or direct lender.

This role involves overseeing a team of Assistant Managers and Analysts, ensuring operational excellence, adherence to controls, and alignment with productivity targets. The Manager will work closely with the Director and other leaders to drive execution, manage staffing plans, and contribute to a strong risk and compliance culture.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Champion a customer-centric culture to deepen client relationships and support broader Bank objectives.
  • Lead a team responsible for administering syndicated and participated credit facilities, including limit management and loan disbursements/settlements.
  • Ensure compliance with the terms and conditions of authorized credits and loan documentation, including pricing, terms, and limits.
  • Act as a key liaison with internal and external stakeholders—including Agent and Participant Banks, Relationship Managers, and clients—to resolve issues and provide guidance.
  • Identify and escalate policy or procedural exceptions to senior leadership for resolution.
  • Develop expertise in loan platforms such as ACBS and Loan IQ to ensure accurate accounting entries and data integrity.
  • Support the Director and senior leadership with exception management, team initiatives, and special projects.
  • Monitor team productivity, staffing levels, and work volumes, providing regular updates to the Senior Manager.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, mentorship, and performance feedback to team members.
  • Embed risk awareness into daily operations, ensuring compliance with operational, regulatory, AML/ATF, and conduct risk frameworks.
  • Foster a high-performance, inclusive team culture by communicating vision and strategy, and supporting succession and development planning.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? – We’d love to work with you if you have:

  • A university degree in Finance, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Proven experience in corporate lending operations, with a strong understanding of syndicated and participated loan structures.
  • Familiarity with loan servicing platforms such as ACBS and Loan IQ is a strong asset.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, with the ability to coach, develop, and inspire teams.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
  • A solid understanding of operational risk, compliance, and regulatory requirements in a financial services environment.
