Type: 4-Month Contract with Possibility for Extension
Location: Lindsay, ON - Hybrid (1 day onsite every 2 weeks for payroll processing)

We are looking to hire a temporary Payroll Manager to support a large, reputable public sector organization during a period of transition.

This opportunity offers a chance to contribute your expertise in managing complex, high-volume, unionized payroll operations while ensuring compliance and accuracy. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership skills, hands-on payroll experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee end-to-end bi-weekly payroll processing for both full-time and part-time employees across multiple unionized employee groups.
  • Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of payroll transactions, including salaries, benefits, deductions, taxes, and garnishments.
  • Supervise and support a payroll team, providing guidance, direction, and oversight of day-to-day operations.
  • Maintain payroll systems and related controls to ensure data integrity and compliance with legislative and organizational policies.
  • Conduct audits of payroll data, reports, and system outputs to identify discrepancies and implement corrective actions.
  • Coordinate payroll-related activities for employee lifecycle events such as new hires, pay changes, and terminations.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for payroll-related inquiries and collaborate with HR and Finance teams to resolve complex issues.
  • Ensure adherence to relevant employment standards, taxation laws, and reporting requirements for external regulatory bodies.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of payroll experience, including team leadership or managerial responsibilities.
  • Experience managing complex, high-volume payroll in a unionized environment.
  • Strong proficiency in Oracle PeopleSoft.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with the ability to analyze, validate, and reconcile payroll data.
  • Proven ability to work under tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy and compliance.
  • Experience working within the public sector or post-secondary education environment (asset)
  • PCP or PLP certifications (asset)
