Salary: From $130,000 to $150,000 per Year
 
Our client, a leading Canadian retail organization with a growing international presence, is seeking a Financial Controller to support their expanding U.S. operations. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in establishing and enhancing financial processes, ensuring compliance, and driving operational excellence. The ideal candidate is a hands-on finance leader who thrives in a fast-paced, scaling environment and enjoys building structure, systems, and teams from the ground up.

Responsibilities

Financial Operations & Control

  • Lead the setup and implementation of financial structures, systems, and processes for U.S. operations.

  • Oversee all accounting activities, including accounts payable and receivable, fixed assets, inventory, general ledger, and cash management.

  • Manage month-end and year-end closing processes, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting.

  • Develop and maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures to ensure accuracy and regulatory compliance.

  • Partner closely with Canadian and U.S. finance teams to streamline reporting, fund flows, and treasury activities.

  • Coordinate annual financial audits and liaise with external and internal auditors.

Statutory Compliance

  • Establish and oversee U.S. sales and use tax processes and ensure accurate filings.

  • Prepare financial and compliance reports for auditors, regulators, and business partners.

  • Support tax teams with U.S. filings and annual tax package submissions.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Lead and mentor the U.S. Accounting team, providing direction and professional development opportunities.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and senior leadership to align financial strategies with business goals.

  • Participate in or lead special projects, financial analyses, and process improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or Commerce; CPA or equivalent designation required.

  • Minimum 5 years of senior accounting or financial management experience, including team leadership.

  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, IFRS, and U.S. tax regulations.

  • Proven experience in the retail or consumer goods industry is an asset.

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with strong business acumen.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills; able to partner effectively across functions.

  • Proficiency in Excel (including macros and pivot tables) and comfort working with large datasets.

  • Flexible, detail-oriented, and hands-on leader who can thrive in a growing, entrepreneurial environment.

  • Fluency in English is required; ability to communicate in Mandarin or Cantonese is considered an asset.

  • Willingness to travel within North America as needed.
