Position Overview:

Our client in the manufacturing sector is seeking a Quality Manager to join their team. Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Quality Manager is responsible for promoting, developing, and overseeing the company’s quality system compliance (ISO 9001).

This role plays a key part in enhancing customer satisfaction by ensuring adherence to customer specifications and improving quality costs through effective management of the Quality Assurance and Quality Control teams, driving continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of 15-20 quality professionals, including a Supervisor, overseeing hiring and termination decisions, performance reviews, employee training, and addressing disciplinary issues.
  • Design, implement, and validate quality processes to ensure compliance with customer expectations and regulatory standards by creating and managing quality assurance protocols, measuring performance, and documenting findings.
  • Establish product specifications and quality metrics to validate quality processes, including production measurements and the documentation of operational qualifications.
  • Coordinate activities of the Quality Assurance and Quality Control teams focused on inspection, analysis, and training.
  • Facilitate problem-solving initiatives by uniting staff across various disciplines to develop and agree on comprehensive quality procedures, communicating outcomes to customers as necessary.
  • Collaborate internally with engineering, purchasing, and manufacturing teams to support quality requirements and ensure compliance.
  • Partner with the purchasing department to set quality expectations for external suppliers.
  • Engage effectively with Production, Engineering, and Supply Chain teams to ensure product availability and the successful launch of new products.
  • Lead analysis and coordinate efforts related to process and system improvement projects.
  • Assess staffing needs to meet quality and delivery goals.
  • Maintain operational data and generate productivity and quality reports for management review.
  • Oversee the activities of the quality team, including inspection, analysis, and training efforts.
  • Manage the process for returned products (RMA group).
  • Uphold and enhance product quality through audits, customer complaint investigations, and collaboration with management on product development, engineering designs, and manufacturing methods.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or a related field).
  • Over 10 years of progressive experience in Quality or a similar capacity.
  • At least 5 years of team leadership experience.
  • Familiarity with the implementation and maintenance of ISO 9001/AS9001 or equivalent quality management systems.
  • Knowledge of ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems is a plus.
  • Experience with Quality Management Systems like ETQ, Master Control, Ideagen, or similar.
  • Strong background in formal statistical problem-solving methodologies (8-Step, DMAIC, Red-X, 8D, Lean-Six Sigma).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of effectively engaging with peers, suppliers, and customers.
  • Lean Manufacturing Green or Black Belt certification is an asset.

Physical Demands / Working Conditions:

  • General office environment with regular PC use.
  • Light lifting (occasionally up to 25 lbs).
