At Manulife Financial, we provide innovative insurance solutions tailored to meet the needs of our clients.  We are seeking a Policy Change Underwriter to join our underwriting team.

The Policy Change Underwriter is responsible for managing and processing changes to existing insurance policies in accordance with company guidelines. This role involves evaluating requests for policy modifications, ensuring all necessary documentation is complete, and coordinating with underwriters and other stakeholders to facilitate seamless transitions. The specialist will handle various types of policy changes including smoker status adjustments, healthstyle category changes, exclusion removals, and policy reinstatements.

This role is crucial in ensuring that our clients receive the appropriate coverage enhancements and additional insurance options.

Position Responsibilities:

Policy Change Underwriting

  • Process requests to change smoker status for policies without Healthstyles categories, or for specific Healthstyles category changes

  • Manage rating reconsideration requests, including removal of non-medical flat extras and Healthstyles category changes.

  • Ensure all applications are fully completed and meet evidence of insurability requirements based on age and amount.

  • Handle removal of exclusions (e.g., aviation, scuba diving, racing) from policies upon request.

  • Process reinstatements

  • Collaborate with internal partners to determine additional requirements for reinstatements beyond age or amount limits.

Automatic Coverage Enhancement (ACE) Underwriting:

  • Review and process ACE applications by evaluating policies and verifying client eligibility.

  • Calculate underwriting amounts based on current policy coverage and ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines.

  • Analyze financial applications and attached documents to confirm entitlement to ACE renewals.

  • Maintain accurate underwriting notes and documentation for each ACE application processed.

Additional Insurance Rider (AIR) Underwriting:

  • Assess AIR applications by reviewing financial applications and determining the maximum eligible amount.

  • Ensure that the AIR rider is in force and that the client meets all necessary qualifications.

  • Collaborate with clients to gather required financial and medical information.

  • Calculate and approve AIR amounts based on underwriting guidelines and client eligibility.

  • Document underwriting decisions and maintain comprehensive records for each AIR application.

General Underwriting Duties:

  • Conduct thorough reviews of financial and medical applications to ensure accuracy and completeness.

  • Request additional information or documentation as needed to support underwriting decisions.

  • Communicate effectively with clients and internal teams to provide updates and resolve inquiries.

  • Refer cases to reinsurance or consult with agents when necessary to ensure optimal outcomes for clients.

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

  • Knowledge of financial and medical documentation review processes.

  • Fully bilingual (French/English): The successful candidate will be required to communicate in English and French in order to support clients from various jurisdictions outside of Quebec.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Proven experience in an insurance-related role, with a focus on policy management or underwriting.

    • Strong understanding of insurance policy guidelines and requirements.

    • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.

    • Ability to interpret and apply underwriting guidelines effectively.

    • Strong communication skills to interact with clients, underwriters, and other stakeholders.

    • Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality.

    • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make decisions independently.

    • Commitment to continuous learning and staying updated with industry changes.

    • Experience with disability insurance underwriting is an asset

    $55,050.00 CAD - $91,750.00 CAD
