The Department of Municipal Affairs is dedicated to working with municipalities to build healthy, vibrant, and safe communities throughout Nova Scotia. Municipal Affairs provides programs, grants, and funding opportunities for municipalities and community groups. The Department also provides services and guidance to municipalities in many areas, including land use planning, budget planning and finance, infrastructure development, policy and program development.
As Director, Strategic Policy and Planning, you play a significant role in shaping the strategy, legislation, and policy for the Department of Municipal Affairs and 49 municipalities. Working collaboratively across the department and with internal/external partners and stakeholders, you lead a team of professionals in the development and implementation of an effective strategic policy, legislative and planning framework. In doing so, you support the achievement of effective municipal governance and financial accountability. This position reports to the Executive Director, Policy, Planning & Strategic Relations.
To be considered for this opportunity, you have a university degree in a related field, in addition to substantial experience in strategic policy and planning. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.

You will be working within a high-paced, busy office environment with strict deadlines, sensitive and confidential information, as well as frequent meetings and conferences that require travel. You must have the ability to travel when required.
Your normal work week is 35 hours/week, 7 hours/day. You may be required to work overtime on occasion.
This is a TERM employment opportunity with an anticipated end date of September 10, 2027. The appointment status (‘term’ or ‘casual’) is dependent on the start date of the successful candidate.
Pay Grade: EC 14
Salary Range: $4,550.68 - $5,688.35 Bi-Weekly
