Reporting to the Director, Treasury Non-Financial Risk, the Associate Director contributes to the overall success of the Treasury Central Office in Canada ensuring regulatory compliance and non-financial risk programs are embedded in business-as-usual, and activities are conducted in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. The Treasury Central Office provides both 1B challenge and support for all areas of Treasury.

 

Is this role right for you?  In this role, you will:

 

  • Lead the delivery of the Bank’s Global Operational Risk Management framework for Group Treasury, inclusive of Third Party Risk Management, NIRA 1b as well as Anti-Money Laundering.
  • Be accountable for planning the end-to-end design of testing strategies and executing on multiple testing plans each year.
  • Require specialized knowledge of Treasury to perform adequate testing that is often complex due to technical nature of the underlying activities.
  • Utilize expert level influencing skills to manage stakeholders and identify areas of improvement in the operational control landscape.
  • Lead the design of Key Risk Indicators and Reporting to GT Core Risk Committee.
  • Be regularly consulted internally for subject matter advice for Third Party Risk Management and Procurement.
  • Manage and update the Regulatory Library.
  • Asses and manage Operational Risk events including remediation and reporting.
  • Exercise judgement based on procedure and precedents when determining if Treasury initiatives require a New Initiative Risk Assessment, leveraging multi-faceted information.
  • Be an individual with curiosity and who is looking for different approaches to solve problems.
  • Monitor industry trends.
  • Work autonomously within established procedures and practices.
  • May lead individual projects or initiatives.
  • Champion a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed? We’d love to work with you if you have experience with:

 

  • Understanding of either Treasury activities, or Capital Markets
  • Demonstrated knowledge of First Line Supervision or First Line activities
  • Understanding of Bank’s three lines of defense model for CORE RISKS.
  • Understanding of financial market regulation a plus
  • Experience working within a Governance and Control environment.
  • Anti-Money Laundering Designation
  • Previous experience in Operational Risk, Compliance, Risk, or Audit a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to execute sound judgment.
  • Good written and communication skills.
  • Ability to influence senior people and peers
  • Ability to work independently and as part of team depending on the work and assignment
