The Office of the Controller is responsible for government accounting policies and financial reporting, financial management and control policies, risk management (financial and audit risk) and financial business process management. The division is a leader in sponsoring, supporting, and facilitating initiatives with outcomes focused on effectiveness, efficiency, best practice, and continual improvement by the government financial community.
As a Financial System Compliance and Reporting Analyst, you will play a key role in promoting government accountability and transparency through the preparation of high-profile disclosure reports and improvement of financial systems. Reporting to the Manager, System Compliance & Reporting (SCR), this position is vital to the development, maintenance, and innovation of the Government of Alberta’s enterprise financial system (1GX S4) and disclosure processes.
You will work closely with ministry partners, senior leadership, and system stakeholders to resolve financial reporting issues, improve data accuracy, and contribute to corporate-level projects that streamline operations and enhance system efficiency across the GoA.
• Provides a diverse range of financial management and reportingincluding quarterly Grant Disclosure, Blue Book, MLA Expense Reports.
• Provide financial and system support to ministry partners and internal stakeholders, ensuring compliance with GoA financial legislation and policies.
• Administer and manage 1GX master data elements (e.g., cost centers, chart of accounts, internal orders).
• Conduct analysis and user acceptance testing (UAT) to ensure system accuracy and business process alignment.
• Contribute to the development of guidelines, manuals, templates, and training materials related to financial disclosure and reporting.
• Support business improvement projects aimed at increasing efficiency and accuracy in GoA reporting.
• Prepare briefing materials, memos, and presentations for senior management and support cross-ministry training sessions
The ideal candidate combines technical mastery of financial systems with strong stakeholder management. You’ll provide technical support and administration of the government's financial system (1GX) including the application of corporate processes and of the master data across the government.

This position will work with others to complete and implement projects. Therefore, understanding the impact of different options on others and identify emerging trends and unintended consequences are important to the success of this position.
Creative Problem Solving – In a lot of situations, there is no available solutions to issues identified, which requires the OOC CCR team members to be able to engage perspective to understand the causes and be creative to find solutions and solve problems.
Agility – Identify opportunities for improvement and change management are two key responsibilities of this position. To implement the best option, this position will need to identify alternative approaches, take action in uncertain situations and create a plan B.
This position needs to adapt well to the frequently changing environment.
Develop Networks – Implementing projects may require testing. Gathering input/feedback from ministries' business partners will increase the chance of being successful.
Build Collaborative Environments – This position will provide guidance to other ministries, and work with others to improve the system and business process. It's critical to build collaborative environments in order to achieve the best results.
Develop Self and Others – leverage team member's strengths to achieve the best results. Have good understanding of the system and how public sector accounting standards and GoA policies can be reflected in the GoA financial system.
A related University degree/diploma in business, accounting, finance or related discipline, plus minimum of two (2) years of directly related experience in financial reporting, policy development, or systems management; or equivalent as described below.
Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
• 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
• 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
The following are considered assets.
• Demonstrated expertise in SAP S/4HANA financial modules (1GX) and SAP BPC or equivalent ERP reporting systems.
• Track record of preparing legislatively mandated reports or disclosures for senior leadership or external stakeholders.
• Experience conducting financial analyses and developing process documentation;
• Proficiency in advanced spreadsheet modeling and data extraction techniques

This is a permanent, full-time position working 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
Currently, the Government of Alberta offers a hybrid work schedule that employees can choose to work from home for two days per week. Employees working from home must be working from an Alberta location. This position will be located in the Terrace Building in Edmonton.
Candidates may be asked to participate in a written assessment prior to the interview. The final candidate for this position will be asked to undergo pre-employment checks.
