This role is is a full-stack thinker with deep experience in Java, Python, and cloud-native development.

***This is a HYBRID role**

Main Responsibilities:  

Design and Develop Scalable Cloud-Native Applications
  • Architect and build secure, high-performance applications using Java (Spring Boot) and Python, optimized for AWS cloud environments.
  • Prioritize modularity, maintainability, and scalability in all development efforts.
Lead Cloud Migration and Modernization Initiatives
  • Strategically plan and execute the migration of legacy applications to AWS.
  • Refactor or redesign applications to leverage cloud-native services (e.g., Lambda, ECS, S3, Redshift).
Implement Secure Data Handling Practices
  • Integrate data encryption and decryption mechanisms across applications.
  • Ensure compliance with security standards and protect sensitive data in transit and at rest.
Drive DevOps and CI/CD Integration
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, or AWS CodePipeline.
  • Automate testing, deployment, and monitoring to support agile delivery cycles.
Provide Technical Leadership and Mentorship
  • Guide development teams through code reviews, architectural decisions, and best practices.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performance engineering culture.
Develop and Maintain Shell Scripts for Automation
  • Use Linux shell scripting to automate system tasks, deployments, and monitoring processes.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize server-side operations.
Perform Database and Analytical Operations
  • Write and optimize SQL queries for relational databases and support data warehousing efforts.
  • Apply analytical thinking to solve complex technical problems and improve system performance.

KEY Technical Skills:

Core Java & Spring Boot (5-7 Years)

  • Expertise in Core Java - 5-7+ yrs
  • Build scalable, secure, and high-performance backend services using Java.
  • Leverage Spring Boot for microservices architecture, REST APIs, and dependency injection.

Data Encryption & Decryption(5-7 Years)

  • Implement secure data transmission and storage using encryption standards (AES, RSA, TLS).
  • Ensure compliance with data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).

Python Programming (3-4 Years)

  • Develop automation scripts, data processing pipelines, and cloud integrations using Python.
  • Use Python for quick prototyping and backend services where appropriate.

AWS Data Lake & Data Warehousing(3-4 Years)

  • Design and manage data lakes using Amazon S3, Glue, and Lake Formation.
  • Integrate with Redshift or Snowflake for analytical workloads and reporting.

Cloud Solutions & Migration(3-4 Years)

  • Architect cloud-native applications using AWS services (Lambda, ECS, RDS, etc.).
  • Migrate legacy applications to cloud platforms, refactoring for scalability and resilience.

Agile & DevOps with CI/CD(2-3 Years)

  • Lead agile ceremonies (stand-ups, retrospectives, sprint planning).
  • Implement CI/CD pipelines using tools like GitLab CI, Jenkins, or AWS CodePipeline.

Linux Shell Scripting(5-7 Years)

  • Automate deployment, monitoring, and maintenance tasks using Bash or Shell scripts.
  • Troubleshoot server-side issues and optimize system performance.

Database Querying(5-7 Years)

  • Write and optimize SQL queries for relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL).
  • Understand basic NoSQL concepts for MongoDB or DynamoDB.

Develops scalable and accessible business cloud applications. Focuses on the technical design, development, enhancement, testing, debugging and maintenance of Cloud applications and supports the design of business processes in the cloud. Applies expertise and in-depth understanding of managed services environments, next-generation databases and, developer tools. Migrates existing applications to the cloud, and modifies existing applications for the cloud, or builds new cloud-native applications.​

  • Creates and maintains various applications using different types of programming languages.
  • Integrates data sources and identifies the kinds of problems that can arise due to incompatibility or security concerns.​
  • Designs, configures and implements the cloud-native software that solves actual business problems using cloud technology​.
  • Maintains applications and infrastructure for cloud-based platforms​.
  • Supports the creation of strategies to enhance the performance of existing cloud technologies.
  • Develops workflows and processes following best practices and the cloud architecture​.
  • Understands specific cloud resources, services, architectures and service-level agreements in order to create scalable and extensive software products.​
  • Creates instructions for cloud computing operations and documentation.
  • Establishes a development environment and continuous integration pipeline. Utilizes modern application patterns and code efficiency.​
  • Translates user needs into technical specifications by understanding, conceptualizing, and facilitating technical requirements from users.​
  • Focus is primarily on business/group within BMO; may have broader, enterprise-wide focus.
  • Provides specialized consulting, analytical and technical support.
  • Exercises judgment to identify, diagnose, and solve problems within given rules.
  • Works independently and regularly handles non-routine situations.

$75,900.00 - $141,900.00

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
