Join the Real Estate and Infrastructure Management team at the Department of Public Works and help shape Nova Scotia’s future. The Electrical Technologist is a critical member of a Technical group composed of registered Professionals and certified technologists that provide ‘in-house’ planning, design and construction administration services. Collectively, we support our Asset Management and Project Management business partners with respect to the execution of the organization’s operational and capital plans. We provide advice and services to our business partners throughout the planning and project execution process with shared objectives of legislative compliance and the application of best practices in an environment of fiscal restraint. Our work informs investments in a variety of provincially owned properties including museums, courthouses, correctional facilities, research centres and heritage sites. We are focused on safety, client satisfaction, sustainability, energy efficiency, and accessibility.
We need your technical expertise to help promote a safe, healthy and inclusive built environment. As the Electrical Technologist for the Technical Services group located in downtown Halifax, you will collaborate with a group of Architects, Engineers and Technologists to support the selection, planning, design and execution of construction, repair or maintenance projects across the province. You will work with the Technical Services team to support the Real Estate and Infrastructure Management Branch by providing input to the Capital Planning process, assessing existing infrastructure, participating in the development of scopes for approved projects, providing design services within the capacity of the team in coordination with all disciplines and providing Design Review services of submittals from external service providers. During the tender, award, execution and close-out phases of the project, you will provide technical and construction administration support to the project team. Through the course of this work, you contribute to the development of corporate standards that will support decision making and influence portfolio investment into the future. Through relationship building and a client focussed approach, you will provide advice and support to a variety of clients with varying levels of technical knowledge. This includes the need to manage expectations through open and respectful communication and to fulfill agreed deliverables within established schedules.
You have completed an approved program as an electrician, an Electrical Technician or an Electrical Engineering Technologist, with associated certification and have eight (8) years of related experience. . An equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered.

This position includes a combination of office and field work. Normal hazards associated with construction sites and working near heavy equipment are present. The position supports projects in all regions of Nova Scotia therefore some travel and associated overtime should be expected. (a valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record is required).

Salary Range: $2,574.66 - $3,008.06 Bi-Weekly
