What you will be doing:

 

The Senior Manager, Expense Management is part of the FP&A team, supporting the budgeting and forecasting of expenses and allocating costs to products in a consistent and clear way. They will play a critical role in providing insightful and timely management reporting and supporting analysis to aid management decisions. The Senior Manager will be responsible for delivering trusted and strategic expense insights, while continuously improving and initiating positive change across people, processes and technology. The incumbent is expected to work with business partners throughout the Bank as well as within the Finance team. The Senior Manager will report directly to the Director, FP&A.

 

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

 

  • Support Director, FP&A and CFO in financial analysis and management reporting
  • Play a key role in the annual planning and monthly forecasting exercise by partnering with all levels within the organization
  • Review total bank plan and forecast. This includes consolidation of total bank expenses, analyze expense variances and work closely with business to understand material variances
  • Work effectively with the IT Finance team within FP&A to create total technology spend view
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining forecast models for FTE planning and resource management. Incorporate, analyze data, collaborate with teams and produce FTE reports for management reporting purposes
  • Prepare complete and accurate monthly expense analysis
  • Develop presentation decks for leadership, simplifying complex financial concepts into visual representations
  • Collaborate within FP&A teams (IT Finance, Projects, P&L consolidation), Product Finance and Financial Accounting & Operations to ensure accurate financial close and timely reporting
  • Identify any risks and/ or opportunities and recommend actions for business partners
  • Liaise between Tangerine Finance and Canadian Banking Finance regarding issues related to budgeting and cost allocation
  • Play an integral role in FP&A transformation activities and support ad-hoc projects
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Creates an environment in which their team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Tangerine and Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:

 

  • Accounting designation with over 10 years of experience in progressive FP&A/ finance roles
  • University degree in business, finance or equivalent
  • Must have: Proficient in Excel and Power Point/ Think cell
  • Nice to have: Working knowledge of Power BI, Anaplan, Alteryx is an asset
  • Ability to step out of the details, think critically, challenge the status quo and bring new perspectives to the team
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate, negotiate, and influence effectively, coupled with excellent relationship management skills
  • Results-oriented, able to manage expectations, work under tight deadlines, and handle competing priorities with strong organizational and project management skills
  • Ability to communicate complex financial topics to non-expert peers within the company
  • Solid analytical and technical capability, able to assimilate and summarize large amounts of information from multiple sources for senior management
