We have an exciting opportunity at Commissionaires Nova Scotia (CNS) for an experienced Trainer / Instructor. Reporting directly to our Training Manager, the Trainer's primary role is to understand both our internal clients and external clients training needs.  Our Trainers are not only responsible for teaching courses, they are actively involved in developing new content for courses, as well as delivering student assessments. 


The ideal candidate will be motivated to succeed, engaging, collaborative, professional, highly adaptable, and be able to work independently with a high level of attention to detail. This position requires an individual with proven teaching / instructor background, a can-do attitude and someone who has a strong track record of supporting the training needs of a large sized business.

THE ROLE

Competition Number: CNS 2025-09-02

Location: Based in Bedford / commutable areas include Truro, Windsor, Hubbards

Rate of Pay: $50,000 - $55,000 per annum
Working Hours:  Monday- Friday, 08:00 to 16:00hrs. (some weekend and/or overtime will be required/necessary)

Closing Date: 16th September 2025


Our Trainers are responsible for delivering our industry leading courses to various levels of learners, while remaining committed to providing students with the necessary tools to achieve success in the security industry.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Facilitate, teach and deliver courses for CNS as required
  • Support students in navigating online and in-person course content
  • Assist with reviewing and updating current courses, as well as development of new course material for delivery to internal and external audiences
  • Compile course evaluations, critique results and feedback
  • Open and close each class, including all paperwork, forms, quizzes, scanning, copying, electronic filing, preparing certificates, inviting closing quest speakers, mail out certificates, creating invitations to the class and maintaining older paper filing of course records
  • Prepare the physical classroom, configuration, nameplates and IT systems as required
  • Assist other team members with registering candidates for training, updating their personnel files and onboarding documents.
  • Maintain inventory of course training equipment and training aids in accordance with regulatory and partner policies
  • Function as the point of contact for all students attending training


Candidates must:

  • Be aged 19 or older
  • Be legally eligible to work in Canada
  • Not have a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted
  • Pass a security screening interview 
  • Be eligible to achieve a Government of Canada personnel security screening
  • Have a valid Nova Scotia Driver’s License.
  • Have an interest in and understanding of workplace diversity and inclusion principles.
  • Be computer literate.


Qualifications and Skills

  1. Education: (Minimum Required): Bachelor’s Degree desirable or an acceptable equivalent of education and experience.
  2. Training or experience in adult education and an understanding of adult learning methodologies.
  3. Candidates with a 'Trainer' qualification in the following areas would be advantageous, though not required:
    1. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI)
    2. Use of Force
    3. Emergency First Aid (or above)
    4. Incident Command System (ICS)
    5.  Persons with Security Responsibilities (PWSR)


Skills and Abilities: (Minimum Required)

  • Must have strong communication, analytical and organizational skill. Be flexible and able to adapt to different learning challenges while remaining patient and calm under stressful situations. 
  • Professional / Technical Knowledge: Strong MS Office aptitude is required, alongside strong administrative skills.
  • Experience with a modern Learning Management System (LMS) or applications, with a focus on adult learning would be considered an asset.
