The Senior Manager contributes to the overall success of the Global HR Risk and Controls Management team ensuring specific individual goals, plans initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted follow governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. 

 

The incumbent will work closely with our internal clients globally to provide support and recommendations to bring to closure the action plans and issues, making sure issues root cause and associated risks are addressed timely and effectively to prevent recurrence and mitigate risk. 
 
Will interact with relevant stakeholders through email, leading meetings, presentations, and conference calls, and escalate any delays in a timely matter. 

 

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Champion a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Contribute to Global HR governance activities related to development/implementation of strategic governance programs and frameworks, policies and procedures, and internal controls. 
  • Execute the Strategic Risk governance activities for Global HR, including Risk Management, Compliance, Privacy, Global Issues Management and other programs that may apply. 
  • Provide subject matter expertise and collaboration to Global HR to increase productivity, mitigate risk and provide consistent customer experience. 
  • Proactive follow-up to ensure that commitments made are delivered on.
  • Provide support to business units in case of internal control breakdowns, providing guidance on action plan and escalating to relevant stakeholders including independent review to ensure effective and efficient risk assessment and adequate controls are in place within the supported countries.
  • Support Global HR Governance activities related to development/implementation of governance programs and frameworks including policies and procedures, and internal controls.
  • Assist and execute Risk Governance for Global HR, including Risk Management, Third Part Risk Management, Compliance, Privacy, Global Issues Management and other programs that may apply.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • Strong understanding across all areas in Human Resources, and the regulatory environment, and reporting requirements in Canada
  • Working knowledge of effective governance and strategy management
  • Ability to think strategically and cultivate networks and relationships
  • Ability to align business imperatives and translate strategy into actionable plans and results
  • Understanding of key Scotiabank business drivers and context of external environment 
  • College Diploma or University Degree with 3-5 or more years relevant experience in Human Resources or Non-Financial Risk Management
  • Able to assess compliance and other regulatory issues, exercise sound judgment expeditiously with respect to such issues and defend decisions with management of the businesses
  • Able to effectively work with and influence at all levels of management
  • Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
