Senior Project Manager (SAP Modernization)

Position: Senior Project Manager – SAP Workforce Software Implementation
Location: Toronto, ON (Hybrid – 2 days/week onsite in the GTA
Contract Term: 2 years initial term with possible extension

About the Role

Our client is advancing its SAP modernization roadmap, implementing the Workforce Software solution by SAP to enhance Time, Attendance, and Scheduling processes.

We are seeking a Senior Project Manager to lead this program through its build and release phases. This is a critical role requiring proven leadership in large-scale enterprise implementations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage project delivery through build, release, and future phases.

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with business stakeholders, Steering Committees, Project Sponsors, and external vendors.

  • Present project status reports and updates to senior leadership.

  • Manage cross-functional project teams within a matrix environment.

  • Ensure project milestones are achieved on time and within scope.

Must-Have Qualifications

  • Minimum 8 years of experience as a Project Manager leading large-scale implementations

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) designation

  • Strong leadership and stakeholder engagement skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Proven ability to manage large, complex projects independently

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Experience with SAP or ERP/Time & Attendance systems (Workforce, Sodales, HASTUS, etc.)

  • Experience in public transit or large unionized public sector organizations

  • Familiarity with collective bargaining agreements (CBAs)

  • Experience managing projects without a systems integrator

 Assignment Duties
As the Project Manager you will be responsible for the following:
• Project Management for the implementation of the SAP Time and Attendance project scope
• Lead Implementation without reliance on a dedicated systems integrator, ensuring end-to-end coordination across all delivery streams and stakeholders.
• Leading project planning for a typical SAP implementation following the SAP Activate Methodology including work packages but not limited to organizational change, communication, solution design, data management, testing, training, cutover, go-live and post go-live support activities as required
• Lead the project team in coordination and administration of all aspects of the implementation including planning, organizing, staffing, leading, and controlling project activities
• Plan the delivery of the overall project and its activities in accordance with the project goals and objectives
• Manage project risk logs and provide mitigations with appropriate contingency plans approved by the business and IT teams
• Manage project issue log on a daily basis and provide actions by collaborating with the responsible project team leads/members to provide a workable solution
• Identify project roadblocks/barriers and address them with appropriate urgency and escalation ensuring the calculated critical path can maintain the delivery timeline
• Drive escalation and resolution of issues and defects, working with the vendor as necessary
• Prepare and maintain associated project documentation as necessary based on the implementation phase deliverable schedule
• Manage with project within the provided project budget and report plan vs. actual cost variances with reasons
• Proactively identify changes in scope, resource, budget or schedule by use of a project change request and ensure appropriate planning measures are taken with internal and external stakeholders to assess impact to project milestones and overall delivery schedule
• Lead the project planning activities following IT methodology based on delivery phases;
• Develop the project schedule including all resource and allocation efforts, linked dependencies and integrated work packages validating with the appropriate resources stakeholders to ensure that all tasks are accounted for and accurately represented;
• Manage project resources and provide direction where necessary;
• Develop work plans, manage deadlines and coordinate the project team’s activities as per the project schedule;
• Lead and support all activities around project planning, change management, communications, solution design, cutover, testing, training, go-live and post go-live support as necessary;
• Provide leadership to cross-functional teams for quality management of deliverables for each PM Methodology phase;
• Provide leadership to the data lead/team responsible for data migration/conversion;
• Prepare weekly progress status reports;
• Prepare presentations/reports for periodic Sponsor/Steering Committee supporting the Program Manager;
• Support, foster and encourage a strong, collaborative team environment;
• Lead, conduct and document project closeout activities including lessons learned, with opportunities for improvement presented in a final project closeout report.
