Our Federal Government client is seeking a Senior Strategist to lead a mission alignment review and strategic roadmap development initiative for an engineering-focused government organization. The role involves policy analysis, stakeholder engagement, and strategic planning to ensure alignment with evolving national priorities and organizational mandates.

 

Tasks

  • Review historical project documents and map the implementation status of prior strategic recommendations
  • Develop a tracking matrix categorizing implemented, outstanding, and outdated actions
  • Analyze recent policy shifts, organizational changes, and budget priorities relevant to future planning
  • Conduct a comparative SWOT analysis to assess progress and gaps since the last strategic review
  • Evaluate the continued relevance of previous recommendations based on current strategic context
  • Classify remaining initiatives into actionable priorities and justify categorization
  • Identify new opportunities and potential constraints that may impact implementation
  • Draft a comprehensive final report including findings, strategic roadmap, and recommendation classifications
  • Prepare and present detailed briefing materials to senior leadership for review and validation
  • Incorporate leadership feedback and revise documentation to ensure full stakeholder buy-in
  • Collaborate with internal teams throughout the review process and participate in planning meetings

 

Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in business, communications, sociology, political science, or a related field, or an undergraduate degree in engineering, science, or technology
  • Minimum of 3 years of recent experience advising on policy and strategy in a national security or defence context
  • At least 4 years of relevant experience in strategic planning, research, or policy development
  • Proven ability to evaluate complex organizational issues and align initiatives with higher-level priorities
  • Strong analytical skills for reviewing technical and operational data in support of strategic outcomes
  • Skilled in developing clear reports and briefings for senior executive audiences
  • Demonstrated experience leading consultation and engagement processes with multiple stakeholders
  • Ability to synthesize feedback and revise recommendations to achieve consensus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Eligible for and able to maintain Secret security clearance
  • Comfortable working in a hybrid model with occasional on-site presence
