As Quality Assurance Tester/SDET of the Global Design System at Manulife, you will play a key role in a dedicated Global Design System team responsible for building and maintaining the foundational components, tokens, and patterns used across digital products worldwide. In this role, you will design and execute test strategies that ensure components are robust, accessible, and ready for use by hundreds of teams and millions of users.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Own the testing strategy for the global design system components including unit, integration, regression, accessibility, and visual testing.

  • Implement and monitor CI/CD pipelines that validate every design system release (e.g., GitHub Actions or Jenkins).
  • Partner with developers and designers to write testable components and define test-driven workflows.
  • Conduct manual exploratory testing where automation isn’t sufficient—especially for accessibility, responsiveness, and edge cases.
  • Perform cross-browser and cross-device testing to ensure consistent behavior across supported environments.
  • Develop visual regression testing pipelines using tools like Percy, Chromatic, or Storybook Addons.
  • Test for accessibility compliance (WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA) using tools such as axe, Lighthouse, and screen readers.
  • Maintain detailed bug reports, dashboards, and release health metrics to inform quality practices.
  • Collaborate across product, platform, content, and accessibility teams to embed quality at every level of the system lifecycle.
  • Growth Mindset

Required Qualifications:

  • 3–5+ years of experience in QA engineering, SDET, or software testing roles within large-scale front-end platforms or design systems.
  • Strong experience testing component libraries and UI frameworks (e.g., React, Web Components).
  • Bonus: Experience in react mobile testing, visual diff tools (Percy, Chromatic), and accessibility testing at scale.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience building & supporting various automated testing approaches: unit testing, visual/snapshot testing, accessibility testing, performance testing & cross-platform testing.
  • Proficiency with test frameworks and tools like Jest, React Testing Library, Cypress, Playwright, Selenium.
  • Familiarity with design systems and Storybook workflows; able to test components in isolation and in context.
  • Experience building automated testing pipelines in CI/CD environments.
  • Solid understanding of web accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1/2.2) and how to test for compliance.
  • Detail-oriented with strong debugging skills and a mindset for preventing regressions.
  • Strong communication and writing skills

When you join our team:

  • We’ll empower you to learn and grow the career you want.
  • We’ll recognize and support you in a flexible environment where well-being and inclusion are more than just words.
  • As part of our global team, we’ll support you in shaping the future you want to see.
