The Director, Business Banking Engineering, is responsible for the engineering execution and delivery of technological solutions that support the Bank’s platforms in Business Banking. This role ensures the timely delivery, quality, resiliency, and operational excellence of platforms that support applications, processes and Client journeys for the Bank. This role partners closely with business and product leads to align on requirements and priorities, delivering technical solutions that support strategic business outcomes. Reporting to the Vice President, this role plays a key part in translating vision into executable plans and ensuring those plans are delivered with a high level of quality, stability, and stakeholder alignment.
Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:
• Responsible for the successful engineering delivery within Business Banking domain that support Canadian Banking Engineering platforms in alignment with the desired outcomes. Focus is on the digital & branch onboarding and other core applications, collaboration across other teams to meet the strategic priorities, while maintaining stability, scalability, and high performance of critical applications.
• Partners with the Business Lead, including enablement teams such as Digital Product, Client Experience, and Operations teams, to define and deliver robust technical solutions that support best in class Client experiences for their domain.
• Executes on the strategic roadmap, as defined by the Business Lead and leadership team ensuring seamless transition from strategy to technical implementation, and fostering continuous feedback loops between engineering and the business.
• Leads and manages end-to-end delivery of engineering initiatives, ensuring proper planning, execution, QA, deployment, and ongoing support for all releases.
• Champions a client-focused engineering culture across their team, prioritizing value delivery, customer experience, and the secure, compliant operation of client-facing digital systems.
• Drives engineering excellence by promoting best practices in coding, architecture, DevOps, CI/CD, observability, test automation, and incident response.
• Ensures platform resilience and operational preparedness, guaranteeing application reliability through extensive monitoring, proactive issue detection, and detailed root cause analysis for incidents.
• Directs day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank’s risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statement and limits. Communicates the Bank’s risk culture and risk appetite statement throughout their teams
• Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:
• University degree in Computer Engineering / Applied Science / Technology, or relevant work experience
• 15+ years of Software Engineering experience
• 5+ years of progressively increasing leadership experience in Information Technology management data, platform, and system(s) management
• Experience delivering complex, high-availability digital products at scale.
• Flexibility to adapt to new and evolving environments and a demonstrated willingness and aptitude for picking new things up quickly.
• Strong leadership and relationship building skills.
• Proven ability to communicate complex technical concepts effectively to semi-technical audiences.
• Enthusiastic and passionate about customer experiences, innovation and delivering software.
• Curious mindset, love for innovation and foster collaboration.
• Love to help others thrive and work best in a dynamic team-oriented environment.
• Excellent organization, planning, and time management skills with proven ability to manage multiple competing and complex initiatives
