The Public Works Department is responsible for ensuring the City’s municipal infrastructure is properly operated and maintained, and for overseeing critical projects in support of these assets.
In this temporary assignment, you are responsible for managing the Public Works Facilities Strategic Project. You design, implement and manage this project to enable achievement of service area, departmental, corporate and community objectives, retain and manage consultants to assist with project delivery, provide communication support to the project sponsor, and contribute to the achievement of departmental and City strategic objectives.
This role will combine project management with the ability to leverage geospatial data and tools to inform decision-making and drive innovation. Key outcomes include:
• Identifying opportunities to apply GIS technologies to improve data visualization
• Translating complex data into actionable insights
• Integrating geospatial data into strategic planning, reporting, and operational systems
• Developing a final suite of recommendations to plan for future departmental and service area-specific facility needs
• Understanding fundamental GIS concepts (spatial data, projections, coordinate systems)
• Proficiency in using GIS software and tools (data input, analysis, visualization)
Completion of 4 year degree in Environmental Science (Biology, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, and Physical Geography), Public or Business Administration, Civil or Environmental Engineering, or related field
Minimum of 5 years of related experience in supporting operational, strategic and business planning, and in managing/evaluating projects relating to program development and related initiatives, within a public works or utility environment. Experience should include conducting research/analysis, interacting with the general public and environmental regulators, and managing external consultants.
