Position Overview

Calian is seeking a Physician Assistant to work at the Canadian Forces Base Shilo in Manitoba. Physician Assistants provide a broad range of medical services in emergency care, primary care, and preventive medical education. These activities include conducting patient history and physical assessments; performing selected diagnostic and therapeutic interventions; and counseling patients on preventive health care. Physician Assistants provide services to patients on both a walk-in and appointment basis. Physician Assistants work under the supervision of a physician in a primary care setting such as a Care Delivery Unit (CDU).

Up to full time hours available.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting medical histories, physical exams, PHAs, and screenings;
  • Ordering and interpreting routine diagnostics (CBC, chest X-ray, EKG);
  • Providing rapid intervention for trauma and cardiac emergencies;
  • Promoting health in public, occupational, mental, and community health;
  • Performing therapeutic procedures (injections, immunizations, suturing, minor surgery, splinting, casting); and
  • Collaborating within an interdisciplinary team, consulting with other health professionals as needed.

Qualifications

  • Have graduated from a Physician Assistant Program accredited or rexognised by the CMA
  • Certification by the Physician Assistant Certification Council through CAPA
  • Hold and maintain a current membership with CAPA
  • Basic Life Support for Health Providers or CPR/AED Level C Certification

Additional Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year full time equivalent experience directly providing patient medical care in an ambulatory primary care, occupational medicine, urgent care or emergency medicine setting
  • Monday to Friday, clinic open from 7h30AM to 4h00PM
