The Experience Analytics team provides Canadian Division management with confidence in the recommended experience analytics strategy.  Experience Analytics team is a customer-centric team performing a critical role within divisional finance as a key component of monitoring product risk.  The role of the Experience Analytics team is to measure and monitor the actuarial expectance against the actual experience (reviewing assumptions such as mortality, lapse, morbidity, withdrawals, etc.).  Additionally, when there are deviations, this group is responsible for studying the data to develop recommendations that would flow into pricing and valuation models.

Reporting to the Director, Experience Analytics, the incumbent is responsible for monitoring trends on Mortality, Morbidity, and Policyholder behavior (for example, developing new experience assumptions for use in Pricing and Valuation, and providing analytical support). The Experience Analyst will also be responsible for the development and implementation of modules for several new products and assumptions which fall under the scope of the Experience Analytics team.  The incumbent will work closely with team members to develop and implement leading experience measurement methodologies for novel products and emerging risks.  The incumbent will inspire team members with a positive attitude and providing honest and timely feedback.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Pricing and Valuation actuaries to support an efficient implementation of experience assumptions in the actuarial models

  • Support the successful completion of the less complex annual experience monitoring review for Retail Insurance and Wealth business.

  • Provide analysis regarding the development of required Experience Studies and reporting to support the business.

  • Provide input to the Senior Developer of the Experience Analytics System with Mainframe enhancements for extracts containing policyholder data that are a key input.  In addition, support the implementation of new modules designed to provide raw experience metrics output (e.g., Actuarial Exposure, Actual-to-Expected ratios, etc.) for a given product type and risk, which in turn are used in the production of annual Experience Analytics Reports and triennial Experience Studies.

  • Awareness of product development projects and system conversion projects to ensure the consideration of experience monitoring requirements.

  • Perform user acceptance testing and develop the required documentation as part of the ongoing development of the Experience Analytics team’s monitoring systems.

  • Apply technical and business knowledge to analyze date and provide recommended solutions.

  • Keep current on, develop, and champion standards, technologies, and methodologies.

  • Customer Service: Build effective relationships and establish a high level of credibility with peers across Canadian Division Finance. Understand the role as it relates to the services provided by the Experience Analytics team within the Service Level Agreement.

  • Experience using MS Office applications (Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, MS SQL, VBA) for data analysis and report writing.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with influencing and negotiation abilities.

  • General understanding of insurance products and associated risks.

  • Ability to work independently, particularly in the area of using sound, independent judgment, problem-solving, organizing, planning and analytical skills.
