The Technical Support branch provides safe, reliable, efficient, timely and cost-effective transit vehicle maintenance services to support federally regulated transit services within the City. The work involves planning, developing, managing, implementing, coordinating and monitoring transit vehicle maintenance activities; materials management and warranty activities; and engineering and technical support activities for vehicle maintenance, including reliability and quality process analysis.
You provide technical support and expertise to Transit Fleet Maintenance sections, develop technical solutions and vehicle design upgrades, supply designs, drawings and computer aided drafting (CAD) services for engineering changes to transit vehicles, and to a lesser extent, municipal vehicles, including bus procurement or bus rebuild/refurbishment programs, or the purchase/modification of Transit Fleet vehicles.
You prepare transit vehicles specifications and other required transit bus acquisition documentation.You provide design and engineering assistance/support for projects, varying in size, scope and complexity, that relate to new approaches required for Fleet Maintenance (tooling, equipment, training and specifications). You oversee bus quality assurance inspection contracts, implement a variety of Fleet Services Branch studies and special projects, write technical documents/reports, and perform other related duties. You liaise with vehicle manufacturers, vehicle upfitters, parts & equipment suppliers, repair shops and refurbishing companies.
Completion of 3 year community college diploma in Engineering Technology, preferably in Mechanical, Electrical or Electronics fields.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in vehicle and equipment engineering, drafting and design work ideally acquired in a work location that manages fleet vehicle maintenance, or vehicle production, such as working for a large manufacturer of cars, buses or trucks. Experience should include both design work and project management.
