Role Responsibilities

Do you want to make a real impact with geospatial data? Join the Government of Alberta’s Office of Statistics and Information (OSI) as a Geospatial Data Analyst and help transform data into insights that shape Alberta’s future. You’ll be part of a dynamic team that supports evidence-informed policy, planning, and service delivery across the government.

In this role, you’ll contribute to building and maintaining high-quality spatial data, maps, and interactive tools that serve both internal government clients and the public. Whether you’re analyzing spatial patterns, developing data layers, or supporting mapping applications, your work will help inform decisions that matter to Albertans.

This is a great opportunity for a technically skilled and curious GIS professional to grow in a collaborative and forward-thinking environment—while supporting the modernization of digital government.

The key responsibilities for this role include:

•    Conduct geospatial analysis and mapping, including data cleaning, geocoding, spatial joins, and visualization.
•    Develop and maintain spatial datasets—such as census boundaries, administrative zones, and service areas—with proper documentation and version control.
•    Create and support mapping tools, including ArcGIS Pro maps, interactive web maps, and dashboards aligned with accessibility standards.
•    Troubleshoot mapping workflows, provide technical support, and escalate issues as needed.
•    Respond to data and mapping requests, collaborating with OSI and GoA ministry clients to clarify requirements and deliver solutions.
•    Support spatial data governance and quality assurance by applying metadata standards, conducting checks, and maintaining data integrity.
•    Participate in professional development—training, communities of practice—and share geospatial best practices within the team.
•    Provide data warehouse and analytics support, including ETL workflows, pipeline monitoring, query creation, and documentation.
