Provides strategic direction, leadership and oversight for the Global DB Pension and HR M&A team in Total Rewards ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are supported in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. Oversight over HR due diligence and policy decisions for Mergers, Acquisitions, Divestures, and Integrations globally. Lead the financial management and reporting of the Bank's global DB pension, programs to ensure cost efficiencies, alignment with the Bank’s priorities and reporting requirements.
Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:
- Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
- Establish and maintain effective and ongoing relationships with the various business leaders, relationship management teams, compensation, benefit, finance, legal and M&A colleagues to ensure programs and policies meet business needs and objectives and are in alignment with the total rewards philosophy.
- Represent Bank and its interest in relevant industry associations, committees, or groups. This includes participation in the development of external papers for presentation to various levels of government.
- Directs high visibility broad-based program design and processes, including obtaining approvals from Board of Directors and that are managed by committees compromised of senior executives (CEO & President, Group Heads and EVPs), for DB pension programs such as the Scotiabank Pension Plan. Provide thought leadership and planning expertise including preparing proposals and business cases to Senior Executives for approval.
- Lead the design, policy, actuarial management, governance, education/communication, employee experience and legal compliance of the Bank's global defined benefit pension programs to ensure alignment with the Bank’s priorities and philosophy.
- Provide consultative services on matters of retirement policy rationale and interpretation. Oversight of Global DB Pension considerations in business strategy including mergers, acquisitions and divestiture initiatives.
- Accountable for global pension risk management strategies, including collaboration with Group Treasury and Finance on Asset-Liability management, annuity purchases and other de-risking strategies.
- Formulate integrated strategies including plan design, communication and employee experience across plans in collaboration with DC pension and benefits and other total reward offerings.
- Oversight of external supplier management including accountability for developing key vendor relationships.
- Accountable for the determination, disclosure, planning and forecasting of the Bank’s Global Annual Pension Expense ($200 million), Balance Sheet liabilities ($9 Billion) Expense and impact on Bank’s Capital (up to $1 Billion per year) under Canadian Accounting Standards and managing the associated Finance and Audit controls and processes.
- Lead the financial management and reporting of the Bank's global DB pension to ensure cost efficiencies and alignment with the Bank’s priorities.
- Oversight over HR due diligence and HR policy decisions for Mergers, Acquisitions, Divestures, and Integrations globally.
- Directs day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank’s risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statement and limits. Communicates the Bank’s risk culture and risk appetite statement throughout their teams.
- Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:
- University degree in actuarial science, math, finance, or comparable subject matter.
- FCIA, FSA or other actuarial designation strongly preferred.
- 15+ years of relevant management/leadership experience in directing the activities and resources associated with the financing, risk, design, implementation, governance, communication, and administration of multinational and multi-jurisdictional private sector employee pension programs, with a good understanding of investments.
- 10+ years of relevant management/leadership experience in directing the activities and resources associated with Human Resources due diligence and policy decisions for Mergers, Acquisitions, Divestures, and Integrations.
- Broad understanding of all elements of Total Rewards.
- Expert knowledge of design, legal requirements, funding and accounting of global DB pension arrangements.
- Exceptional strategic influencing skills to execute complex projects. Identifies key stakeholders required for success and actively engages them in key business planning decisions. Works well within the corporate culture and effectively manages the dynamics within the Bank.
- Strong cross-cultural leadership skills required to effectively interact with business partners globally. Shows flexibility and openness to differing ideas and perspectives, adapts to cultural differences, and effectively interacts with others of different backgrounds and styles.
- Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills in order to clearly summarize and effectively share complex information with various audiences.
- Experience leading and implementing change in a complex corporate environment and guiding a team through change.
