The Team
Contributes to the overall success of CBT Data Services in Canada by ensuring that individual goals, plans, and initiatives are effectively executed and delivered in alignment with the team’s business strategies and objectives. All activities are conducted in compliance with applicable regulations, internal policies, and procedures.
Reporting to the Vice President, Revolving Credit, Data and Transactions, through a Director, the Software Engineer brings expertise in generating insights from operational data managed by the Canadian Banking Technology team. The role provides technical leadership and delivery excellence in Power BI and emerging Generative AI technologies.

Champions a customer-focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
Applies in-depth understanding of database management systems, online analytical processing (OLAP), and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) frameworks.
Demonstrates knowledge of SQL queries and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
Shows proven ability to take initiative and be innovative, with an analytical mind and strong problem-solving aptitude.
Provides system analysis, object-oriented design/programming, technical documentation, and support for both existing and new applications and systems.
Recommends best practices and enhancements aligned with the Bank’s technology roadmap.
Collaborates with project teams to refine technical requirements and provide technical design and guidance based on industry best practices.
Performs coding, unit testing, debugging, documentation, and implementation of applications and scripts.
Participates in the estimation and planning of development efforts required for various projects and enhancements.
Maintains, supports, and enhances existing applications, and participates in regular code reviews for release activities.
Leads implementation efforts for deploying code to non-production and production environments.
Considers the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture in day-to-day activities and decision-making.
Pursues effective and efficient operations in alignment with Scotiabank’s Values, Code of Conduct, and Global Sales Principles, while ensuring adherence to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions, and conduct risk controls.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We’d love to work with you if you have:
University degree in a relevant STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) or equivalent.
Minimum of 5 years in the data analytics and reporting field.
Proven track record of maintaining objectivity regarding technologies and vendors.
Solid understanding of web and cloud-based applications (including complex systems), with the ability to evaluate issues, identify actions, and recommend solutions.
Responsible for code development, unit testing, UAT support, implementation, and ongoing operational support.
Proficient in Google Cloud development stacks.
Skilled in object-oriented programming (OOP), functional design, and standard software engineering tools and platforms — Python preferred.
Hands-on knowledge of containerization and orchestration tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and DevOps platforms (e.g., Bitbucket, Git, Ansible, Jenkins).
Strong analytical thinking and organizational capabilities.
Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Familiarity with tools such as Splunk, Dynatrace, and Apigee is considered an asset.
Over 2 years of software development background in building web applications using technologies like ReactJS, NodeJS, and MongoDB.
Deep understanding of code quality practices, including linting, code reviews, and automated formatting tools.
Well-versed in Agile development methodologies.
Competent in modern JavaScript toolsets (ES6+, Webpack, Babel, Jest, SonarQube, CheckMarx, Web Inspect) and knowledgeable in HTML/CSS/SASS.
Demonstrated skill in developing and deploying machine learning models (e.g., for predictive analytics, classification, NLP) using Python and frameworks such as Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, and PyTorch.
Applied knowledge of Generative AI technologies to enhance BI and data workflows, with a focus on leveraging LLMs for NLP and building RAG or agentic systems to automate processes.
