Position Overview

The production coordinator’s primary role is to ensure fabrication staff utilization to maximize efficient labour effort on customer/deliverable work and correctly prioritizing the different work in the shop. The production coordinator provides support to the production supervisor via production status reporting and is responsible for components of the facility (ie: opening, lock-up).

Responsibilities

  • Prioritize work, assign tasks.
  • Unlock/lock facility.
  • Conduct daily huddles with production team for weekly goals/tasks.
  • Provide leadership to the production staff within the facility.
  • Complete any required audits, approvals, and quality inspections as needed in the production process.
  • Support Engineering and Production Supervisor with implementing engineering changes during production runs.
  • Notify Maintenance Technician about any encountered issues with production equipment.
  • Allocate materials from general/project inventory to the production cells when the material handler is unavailable.
  • Assist with routine inventory counts as well as the annual fiscal inventory count.
  • Competency in our composite processes.
  • Support Production Supervisor with annual performance evaluations and bi-annual feedback reviews for team members in accordance with human resource guidelines.
  • Support the Production Supervisor’s cross training plan by conducting composites SOP training and organizing any project specific or specialized equipment training in order to fulfill the plan.
  • Ensure safety compliance of the production team.
  • Obtain Engineering support for solving production/technical problems when lead fabricators on a project cannot provide a solution.
  • Daily production status reports.
  • Onboarding new staff by ensuring all their administrative and technical compliances are completed.
  • Training and auditing existing staff on standard production processes, including new processes that are brought into the facility.
  • Dealing with conflict resolution for staff on their shift, bringing larger issues to the attention of the Production Supervisor.
  • May need to support roles and responsibilities of a fabricator in times of fabricator shortages.

Qualifications

  • Strong technical skills (mechanical aptitude, familiar with tools, operatin equipment) , critical thinking, professionalism, adaptability, organized, positive attitude.
  • Leadership skills; be visible, accessible, and approachable. A clear sense of urgency to achieve results. A can-do, let’s make it happen attitude.
  • Ability to prioritize work in production.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Competent in the use of personal computers and software including Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project (or equivalent), and Windows.
  • Experience in leading teams to produce to a schedule, preferably in a manufacturing atmosphere.
  • Knowledge of health and safety policies.
  • Lean training is an asset.
  • Composites manufacturing experience is an asset.
