What you'll do

Responsibilities

What you will be doing…

As an integral part of Student Services, reporting to the Manager, Student Services, you will:

  • Provide the first line of contact and service-delivery for all students at the Campus who are experiencing personal, social or academic difficulties.
  • Serve as a source of information relating to career development, wellness, mental health, and physical well-being.
  • Refer students to other services and resources within the college or in the community, as appropriate.
  • Create resources and deliver and/or coordinate group sessions and workshops on a wide range of wellness and personal management topics, to aid students in adjusting to college life and becoming successful learners.
  • Provide brief, solution-focused counselling to students.
  • Provide leadership and support regarding critical incidents involving the entire campus community.
  • Foster the formation of campus-based groups to help students develop support networks.
  • Participate in, or at times lead the organization of campus events, activities, or committees that contribute to the distinctive student experience, such as Orientation, Student Success Night, and the Campus Food Bank.
  • Support the Manager, Counseling and Wellness on college wide initiatives related to NSCC's mental wellness strategy focusing on student wellbeing.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is a Master's degree in Clinical Social Work, Psychology or Counselling or other Master's degree enabling registration with one of the provincial regulatory bodies.
  • Registered with or undergoing candidacy process with the relevant regulatory body; Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists (NSCCT), Nova Scotia College of Social Workers (NSCSW), Nova Scotia Board of Examiners in Psychology (NSBEP).
  • You have a minimum of five years (full time equivalent) post counselling credential relevant occupational experience counselling adults in a variety of specialities, (e.g. academic, career and personal), including working with post-secondary and or secondary students . Candidates with less then five years of post-counselling credential experience may also be considered.
  • In addition, you possess two years experience working in a clinical or educational counselling setting.
  • ou are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite, E-mail, Poplesoft, case notes, Microsoft Teams
  • You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology to create an exceptional student experience
  • You have experience in training/facilitation preparation, delivery and evaluation
  • You have experience supporting/providing service to students and prospective students

Salary range: $77,032.43 to $102,412.68annually

The salary scale for Professional Support 5 is based on steps that range from $77,032.43 - $102,412.68. New Professional Support may receive up to a maximum of seven steps for relevant occupational experience which is $89,704.12 annually.
