Mandate

Under the direction of the Director, Transfer Pricing, the Manager, International Tax and Transfer Pricing assists in providing effective Canadian and foreign (non-U.S.) transfer pricing and income tax advice to BMOFG's lines of business and Corporate Groups in respect of BMOFG's foreign operations including foreign reorganizations, acquisitions, capital, funding and other corporate or regulatory initiatives.  Works collaboratively to manage the Canadian and foreign (non-U.S.) transfer pricing and income tax implications of BMOFG's related party transactions, including any associated tax compliance and reporting requirements and audits by tax authorities.

    Supports tax advisory and management advice for an assigned business/group to ensure compliance and the best possible outcome for tax implications. Works with stakeholders in Finance and the business to support the business objectives through tax advisory, audits as well as corporate acquisitions, divestitures, and corporate reorganizations. Applies knowledge and research of the relevant tax legislation and guidelines that can impact the business.

    • Acts as a trusted advisor to assigned business/group.
    • Influences and negotiates to achieve business objectives.
    • Recommends and implements solutions based on analysis of issues and implications for the business.
    • Assists in the development of strategic plans.
    • Identifies emerging issues and trends to inform decision-making.
    • Supports development and execution of strategic initiatives in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Performs research based on current and proposed tax legislation, regulations and guidelines; supports the group leader in communicating advice across the Bank related to changes.
    • Breaks down strategic problems, and analyses data and information to provide tax-related insights and recommendations.
    • Builds effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders.
    • Acts as liaison between stakeholders in order to align agendas and ensure a clear understanding of the business context.
    • Leads/participates in the design, implementation and management of changes to core business/group processes, systems, information reporting and products as a result of changes to jurisdictional tax requirements, the related tax compliance, standards and regulations.
    • Monitors compliance with tax policies, procedures and controls to ensure completeness and accuracy of financial information.
    • Reviews business initiated transactions, including including withholding tax and changes to tax requirements, to ensure tax risks are assessed, mitigated and communicated to the Group leader and other stakeholders as appropriate; works with others to ensure tax issues are addressed.
    • Executes work to deliver timely, accurate, and efficient service.
    • Provides no tax advice directly or indirectly to particular customers or employees of BMOFG.
    • Focus is primarily on business/group within BMO; may have broader, enterprise-wide focus.
    • Provides specialized consulting, analytical and technical support.
    • Exercises judgment to identify, diagnose, and solve problems within given rules.
    • Works independently and regularly handles non-routine situations.
    • Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.

    Qualifications:

    • University degree and professional accounting designation, CA, CGA or CMA
    • Completion of CICA In-depth tax course, Parts I and II preferred
    • 4 or more years of relevant tax experience  
    • Typically between 5 - 7 years of relevant experience and/or certification in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Professional designation preferred e.g. CPA, LLB.
    • Good working knowledge of Canadian international income tax rules, transfer pricing methodologies and OECD guidelines
    • Deep knowledge and technical proficiency gained through extensive education and business experience.
    • Experience in financial services preferred

    Salary:
    $82,800.00 - $154,800.00

    The above represents BMO Financial Group’s pay range and type.

    Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
